Ask for the name and phone # of the previous owner and call them. Most reputable dealers will give the info and if not I always felt they have something to hide. May have been a auction truck that someone else could not sell for whatever reason.

My buddy has a ford f150 with the 5.4 liter in it. He's had to borrow my Toyota t100 with 218k on it cause his ford always has had problems with it. I've had 3 Toyota trucks, none with under 120k on it. Dad has had 3. Just sold his 2005 Tacoma to get automatic because after his back surgery. He got a 2015 Tacoma. Gets like 22mpg. All the Toyota's have been good trucks. His 05 he and I both fit in fine. He is 6 foot 210. How damn big are you now Jesse? Lol
Since this thread popped up I've been paying attention to the F150's for sale. It seems like a lot of them have transmission work and reared work done. I'd be guessing, but I'd say those are problematic in these trucks.
I just looked at 05-09' F150's. These problems also seemed to only be with the 5.4 motor trucks.
They all can have their issues. We are in a really great place when it comes to trucks. Decent mileage and plenty of horsepower.
I am a Ram/Dodge fan at the moment. My thoughts not that they matter...
Ford - generally the worst mileage (pre ecoboost). They also have the worst ride which is still great. The greatest overall positive is that they seem to run forever. They will tick, rust, drive sideways because of issues but just keep running. Minus the occasional transmission dump. They need helpers/air bags to haul anything over 2k.
Chevy - hate the rake which causes shitty ground clearance. Interiors sucked until 2010ish. 5.3 is a great motor. Better tow ratings. Eats hubs on a regular basis. Least amount of transmission issues of the big three.
Dodge - best mixture of specs for me. Highest horsepower and tow ratings (not using weight dist). Older ones had rust issues and we will see on the newer ones. Pre "Ram" Badging trucks had occasional tranny issues. The Hemi tick seems to be inevitable after 130k.
Toyota - hub eaters, weird interior, tie rods are weak, and I didn't enjoy towing our boat with one (6950 pounds). They run for a long time with maintenance like the Ford but are quite a bit more expensive to fix.

I have over 350,000 on my 2002 Silverado 2500HD 4x4 6.0L gas.. and yes, a lot of replaced parts along the way BUT, with that many miles, things are expected to wear out. Just had a new tranny and transfer case at the 340,000 mile mark. Yes, the tranny went that long. It's towed big boats in the 7,000+ weight range. (31' Fountain /twin 225's) and many atv trailers loaded for hunting weekends.

Usually with that many miles on it the electrical problems will start outweighing the mechanical problems...... Some are just nuisance issues some are hair pulling pain in the backside problem.....
