So adapt and change. A lot of work has went into my wife's future office (our bedroom for this winter). My wife painted half of this room navy which ended up being to dark almost appearing black on the south wall in low light.....she debated on it i told her make it right ull kick yourself in the end if you dont love it now. Glad she switched it up. My wife doesn't like blends of colors in materials so she asked if I could make red oak not so much color? and as light as possible?? I just wanted an oak floor and had zero clue how it'd turn out, but said yes I can. I lost sleep over this floor. I gave her 5 different samples to choose from, pure poly to different shades of white stain depending on how heavy it was applied. I didn't match any of the samples but I m pleased with the outcome even though at times it looked like a kindergarten art class in session. White stain red oak with 5 coats on poly. (I wanted gloss-i t looked like a marble floor when shinny- she wanted satin, we got satin it's her office but i tried) I brushed the poly on this time per jamie advice this spring thats the way ill do it from now on. Needs some trim, lights, crown molding, outlets and done. I'm loving this floor even though I gagged at the idea of staining an oak floor white. The oak in the other parts of the house will just be natural and not such an odd ball. Getting there....

Worked on an elm tree from our front yard the power company took down this summer. It had trouble leafing out last year and completely gone with little bark attached this season. Basically zero boring insects had got to the trunk section. It shaded our house since we have lived here. I've enjoyed this tree greatly aside from it's self pruning years in ice storms.....So it's only fitting to use all the limb wood for heat and turn its trunk into show cases of our home for a fireplace mantel and wood oven mantel.. Just getting them roughed out and seal the ends and get it inside before winter sets in.

That's a great way to incorporate a tree you've enjoyed for years. Making lemonade out of the lemons so to speak.
