home pistol question

Opinions please.

Current home defense pistola is p320 ‐ not happy with the increasing number of issues and trainers not allowing them on the line secondary to issues.

Role - home defense (when long gun is not available/ needed) will live in a battle belt. Occasional to rare carry, range and class use. Prefer softer shooting so the wife doesn't hate it.

Primary ccw - p365 OG size

Initially i was looking into fn 509, 365 macro xl, fn reflex xl, etc. I'm also debating putting an optic (rmr) on it. Shot a few at a range yesterday.

365 axg legion - fits my hand, shot well if i drive the gun, slide release and i didn't get along

365 xl - snappy enough my wife wouldn't like it, the metal frame of the legion really does mitigate it (along with the comp)

mp 2.0 metal - had a vortex rmr and i shot the gun exceptionally well and the only dislike was had to slightly adjust for slide release and the trigger reset i would need to learn

i can't find the FNs anywhere to shoot. Glock grip angle and i disagree.

Thoughts?
leaning towards the mp for to price and i shot it well at this time.

Man I think it all comes down to what’s a good fit for you. My hand size is small so my EDC is a P365X no optic. I wish I had went without the safety because sometimes in quick draw drills I found myself hitting the safety up. I have a Hellcat in my nightstand with an optic and I love the ergonomics but I can’t get used to the optic. Works better to bring the gun up close to your face to acquire a sight picture then out. I’ve not fired the MP metal but it has great reviews. Sig, MP, SA, I would trust my life with any of them reliability wise.

Glock…. I carry a 26…. The wife has a S&W M&P next to her spot on the couch and a Bersa 380 with a crimson trace laser sight next to the bed…..
All backed up with a AR and a 30round mag for backup….
Have you looked at any of the Kimbers?

Damn .. Better not go knocking on J's door late at night... As for best home defense weapon... Nothing beats a nice 12 gauge shotgun loaded with 00 buck..

Considering the history of Kimbers metallurgy - no thanks

That's an opinion that can be refuted.

Doug... As any LEO and 90% will say shotgun...Gun should have a short barrel, as short as legal... In the heat of the moment at 3 AM when just woken up, you can place lethal rounds in an object with your handgun,??

Your information is quite dated.

A few thoughts to further my above commentary.
1.) When was the last time you saw a SWAT team or other LEO tactical team going into a home armed with shotguns? They have to account for EVERY round fired.
2.) When our soldiers are clearing buildings when (other than for breaching doors) do you see them armed with shotguns? Same idea, they want to stop/eliminate threats as fast as possible.

A rifle is more accurate, less recoil leading to more accurate second, third, and other follow up shots, with proper ammunition its safer for the other occupants in your home while still being and incredibly good man stopper.

A shotgun has an incredibly larger amount of recoil than a rifle (AR15) which leads to inaccurate first shots (flinching) or more challenging follow up shots. Buckshot carries more energy through walls than proper 5.56 ammunition for inside a home defense. Shotguns carry less ammunition in a standard or even extended capacity than most AR15s (in free states). Shotguns are not generally (but can be configured) for CQC scenarios, ARs are easily adapted to that. Its very challenging to suppress a shotgun (I know of one reliable option), where as ARs are easily suppressed decreasing the risk of permanent hearing damage after a self defense event. Also the suppressor leads to less muzzle flash which does not blind you allowing you to make more accurate follow up shots.

My handgun is next to the bed in a safe to allow quick access while maintaining safety. It has a light on it and allows me to fight my way to a more suitable option. My next three steps are battle belt (with a different pistol on it) complete with extra mags, blow out kit, and rifle mags, plate carrier and then suppressed SBR with light. At that point a pistol goes to my wife and I defend my wife and kids while she defends anything that gets past me. I also have furry members of my family who will hopefully give me enough warning and additional time to take care of the threat.

Shotguns have been used in every war since the First World War and are still being used. Plus when you rack the action on a 870 in the dark assholes be heading for the door quick.

Doug... You win .. Personally I've never seen a SWAT team enter a building other than on TV... Recoil... I'm sure in that instance your not going to even think about recoil or notice it when shots fired... Do you feel recoil in the excitement of shooting a deer... So use which ever you like and hopefully you'll never get to use it in real life ..

You got that right... Don't believe everything you see on TV .. I love when they hide behind a car door .. bullet going threw door and person on other side then exiting other door...

Everybody thinks Sam Colts .45 was the gun that won the west when it was really the shotgun. My bedroom gun is a Glock 30 along with my streamlight flashlight to get me to the gun safe. Two 870’s are in the first row.

My personal opinion would be a revolver. The only reason I say that is if you never been trained over and over and then it comes to the actual defense 99%of people will forget to rack around.

That is my wife's choice for home. She has a real tough time with the slide release and having the strength to rack the slide by herself. Of course she can grab either when loaded and ready to go but the revolver puts her at ease on it's simplicity.
