Today I put up the mantle on the fireplace, to some it is just an old partially rotten beam, to me is a tie to history. This beam came from the last original building on our farm in Ohio. It was the corn crib and it was built sometime before 1895. The farm has been in the family since 1935, I am the fourth generation owner and my sons will be the fifth generation.

It reminds of all the times growing up playing at the farm in the summer, making forts in the big barn, killing mice in the corn crib, just having fun.

I sit down and drank a beer, reflecting on all this piece of wood has seen, oh if it could tell stories. I toast my father, grandparents, great grandparents, uncles, aunts, great uncles, great aunts.

Here is to you, Cheers! May our family’s legacy live in me, my children and maybe one day grandchildren.
