I couldn't locate a thread similar to the baseball journal w/o a specific year attached (sorry Ben), so here it is wide open for many years to come hopefully. A place to share your high school and middle school football action for family, friends, community.

Ty, our oldest, is going into 7th grade this year which is the start of real football around here (no pee wee). Their MS Principal and Vice took the main coaching roles and I'll be assisting. We handed out equipment last Thursday, and a good problem of strong numbers and big boys (shortage of certain size pads and pants) was experienced. Ty's excited, and will be looking to play WR and DB. And we're off.......!

In addition, Freedom Field, started to get its turf installed this past Saturday! Max Soviak will be memorialized on each 27yrd line, it's going to be an amazing dedication during the first home varsity game. We were one of last local schools to switch from grass to turf, timing to remember and honor him were aligned for a reason.

All 3 boys currently show a love for the game, that can certainly change at any moment. But my hope is we have 10+yrs of MS & HS football ahead of us as a family, and we make Max proud!

Chills...going to be an honor for all those who get to play on it and an opportunity to remember those who have fallen.Every.Single.Time!

Summer workouts wrap up tomorrow AM. Ty will clock in with 100% attendance, proud of him and coaches have provided praise on his work ethic when picking him up. First real practice start Thursday, pads next Mon., full contact next Weds.🤘

7th/8th grade scrimmage was last Thursday on Freedom Field, with chills and Max's spirit draped over the teams and community as we took the field. Pregame talk we explained the importance of focus, fun, but handling business, and they did just that. This was the first scheduled competion on Freedom Field, what an honor for all involved.

First game is next Thursday at home, we have work to do but you could see and feel warrior seeds beginning to sprout. I could not make films, but Ty was one of a few who received recognition. He wears #12 for practice, but chose #41 for games. He is a HB on O, and a SS on D. Our programs future is bright and tonight we watch varsity in their first scrimmage. We got bumped to Div 5. this year, and God willing no major injuries, I expect them to be playing deep into November. The coaching staff, the returning letterman, Freedom Field, the community.....the potential is there!

First game vs. Eastwood last night!
20240822_181554.jpg

It did not go well. It was 0-22 at half, with the fear of GOD in our teams eyes. Nerves got the the best of them as Eastwood had both size and speed. They dominated the line, and ran around the edges for all 4 TDs.

The good....welcome to football fellas! You could see after the 2nd half that accountability to own their job on the field was now understood in the bigger picture of a team. We had 2-3 players that really stood out on both sides of the ball and they became play makers when there was nothing there. The bad....we had 1 of our better players out due to illness, we sent him home on Tues. to get to the doctor, and he was not in school yesterday. We only have 2 QBs, and our starter went down during pregame warm-ups as a pulling guard got tripped up and landed on him. He spent the entire game in a boot due to ankle injury😫. The snap relationship was not good with backup, but he played his heart out and allowed us to atleast play the game. I had to ask the crowd for 3 men to run chain gang or no game....wtf?!?

Ty sucked on both sides of the ball, missed tackles (head down and arm tackle attempts only), and completely shit himself after being stuck a few times by their ILB's. His only shining area were his punts 😆. Only way is up from here son.

Weird 2nd game yesterday against Plymouth, but resulted in a win. We played after 8th grade, but didn't know they had a blended 7 & 8th grade team until we arrived. We would have picked up a different nonconf. team for a full game, as they only wanted to play half a game for 7th. So we played the half, and put up 22-0. It was a confidence builder, with some great improvements over last week (alignment, blocking assignments, etc.) with new items for practice next week (fumble vs. Inc. pass, laterals, ball protection, etc.). One of the moms got some great shots. 1-1, with 6 left to play. Looked like a football team🤘

My alum, Perkins, was the game of the week on TV last week. They are right there to battle for a run at state in D4. We were honored after the 1st qtr. for our 25yr. state championship win, starts around min. 19 and includes some cool clips from the game & radio. I was blessed to also share it with my stepfather who was the HS principal at the time. GREAT to see coaches and players not seen in a LONG time!

Our current team, Edison, is also looking strong after week 1, with 3 bruising running backs. Tonight should be another opportunity to tidy up some things, but they're looking strong.
