It was me! Buddy Dean killed a good one yesterday. Our other buddy killed one in archery season. Today was my turn. We are all 3 done. Been a good season for the three of us. Only way to make it better is if I can get my son on a deer.
Sorta what I was thinking. lol NOT the reason I shot him. I was stoked about the drop tine. If he wasn't a shooter "to me". . . . Momma would still be grumpy about me hunting TOO much. lmao
Here are some better pics of the rack, although a bit worse because I am in them too.
Not much story so I will write it up now as well. Got in way early. Didn't bust anything. Never heard anything until shortly after 8am. No deer. No gun shots in distance. Quiet. Saw a yearling and thought "Great. One of the twins I have had hang around this stand all season." As I watched her expecting her button buck brother to be tagging along somewhere I saw this guy show up. He wasn't pushing her but was contently following her. From the side i wasn't sure if I was going to shoot or not. Wanted to see better. He turned and i thought "Pretty good mass, decent spread, maybe 130" main frame 8pt. . . DROPTINE!" I wasn't sure at first. Thought I was seeing things. He gave me a better view of the droptine and I knew I was shooting. Waited for what felt like forever. Knew they were calm and I was in the right wind. Adrenaline set in. I had time to lower my scope to 3x because he was only 45yds away. I said a prayer asking to calm me down and allow me to make a clean shot. He took a couple more steps and I lowered the BOOM! He dropped hind quarters first, then front, then flopped onto his side. Then he tried to roll back over so I chambered another round. Neighboring property owner isn't reciprocal on recovery. He is okay wandering in and doing what he wants but doesn't allow the other way. I was 150yds or more from the property line but I'll be darned if I am giving this buck a chance to move. Boom! He flopped some more but I only had a shot at the white on his underside. At this point he flopped some more. I thought "This is ridiculous. Is my scope off or something? Well. . . .I'm not worried about losing a little of the meat, this dude is eating all three slugs. He is too nice to let get away." Recapturing my thoughts of the moment seem ridiculous now, but with adrenaline going my thought process was blurred. All three shots hit their mark. He looks like a wiffle ball in my barn now. lol
Couldn't be happier. He is a dandy drop tine in my eyes!
