This was the objective of Pickett's Charge .... the Copse of Trees.....to punch thru the Union Line, but reinforcements put an end to that nonsense . The lone tree & some in the clump of trees were actually there to witness the battle ......

The Pennsylvania monument...... I discovered the names of two distant relatives listed with their regiment. I was looking for another, but he was not listed, because he was out of commission during the summer of '63. One of the two listed, actually died during the battle & is somewhere here in an unmarked grave. These monuments are so majestic....something that will never be built in this days & age.

I met a guy while taking pics at the copse of trees. He's a civil war re enactor & also shoots cannons. He was very interesting & is part of a group that patrols the park at night. I had to ask if he had ever experienced anything .....abnormal. He's never seen a ghost, but there's times when the hair on his neck would raise.... as if he was being watched.... at 3am on their patrol, stuff like that.....

If you enjoy civil war battlefields and monuments you should really make the trip to Vicksburg to the National Military Park. There are monuments throughout indicating positions for the various state units that were there. It'll take a good day just to drive through it.

From small markers for individual units all the way to huge ones for states
