Jesse's 2015 Pics & Videos

They ate 30 bushels of ear corn in under a month. I thought it would actually save me money, but I don't think it will. $120 a month in shelled corn is 16 50# bags from Rural King. They were only eating 3 of those a week, so I was dropping less than $100 a month on shelled corn. I cut back now anyways, so I'll decide what to do in a couple of weeks. I'm investing in a quality gravity feeder before long to see how they take to it. I'd like to be able to feed protein pellets in the summer.

Redneck Blinds makes the one he endorses. They have a t-post model and a freestanding 750# model. I can't justify the cost for the big one ($650) and the t-post version holds less than 100#s of corn. I'm looking at the Boss Buck versions, or the On time Feeders version. The On Time version feeds in to trays, which I like. I may make one too. Just have to see what happens. The plan is to put one down in K's Spot and establish a second feed site to take the burden off this one. It looks like I've been feeding cattle on it.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I would like to give a little more balance/variety in my gravity feeder but have not done much investigating. I would like to find a regular AG product if feasible rather than pay for something with a big buck on the bag...

On Friday evening I had a cool encounter with a deer I'm calling Jack Junior. I'm almost positive this deer has some of the same genes as Captain Jack. The similarities are there for sure. He came out of the sanctuary to the west of where I was sitting and spare with a small fork horn. I hit the grunt tube twice and he made a beeline for the treecoy 25 yards in front of my stand. He came in looking for the source of the grunt and would have got an arrow had he been 30" bigger!

From here, he continued on down the creek bottom to the east, eventually climbing the hill and strolled through the Corner Pocket food plot...

The same cam check revealed a lot of night time activity from the 3 shooters. Although I think Farva may be a 4 year old, I'm not sold on him just yet. This is a buck I need to see on stand before I'd decide...

I love these types of pictures when it comes to scrape cams!

I also got a blurry picture of Daryl Dawkins working the same scrape 15 minutes before legal light Halloween morning. I almost went to the stand that is 40 yards from this scrape and am glad I didn't right now as he'd have been eye level eating nose fulls of my scent. Whereas I trust the smoker, there is no need to educate deer and that's why I elected to stay out of that stand. It will work for a SE wind, but it is not ideal.

Meet Caitlin Jenner. The doe who was once a buck and has the scar (split ear) to prove it. I'm going to work hard to put my wife on her before the year is out. There's a lot of meals in this old girl!
