How do y'alls locations do it?

I'm "on call" for it for a 3 month period, the paperwork states 1-2 times a month. But I won't know what days until 3+ days bel before. That's incredibly inconvenient to me and others considering my job. What's the advantages to that over just telling me a certain time period that I need to go in?

I'm not against the idea, and will serve if needed but this is my second time since moving to this county and my wife hasn't gotten it once.

With the job you have and scheduling I would asked to be released from doing it. I have had to serve for 2 weeks back in the 90s and got called for federal duty but never had to go. Also called for our county court but never had to go. I just had to call a number on Sunday evening but never had to serve. Kind of a crapshoot whether you go or not. The time I served for 2 weeks straight was interesting. Also learned that when a judge recesses for lunch it is usually for 90 mins. Damn didn't know what to do with that much time b4 we went back. Typical government waste of time.

I was summoned 4 times, 3 for regular and one grand jury. Never stepped foot in a courtroom.
2 we were dismissed because, well they all pled out.
1 I was deployed
The grand jury I was off on a workers comp and that was excused due to the circumstances. Provided paperwork and they said they’d move me down the line. Never was called after that. That was 2015.
