It wasn't a long hunt, but I made it out tonight. My wife reminded me of her birthday Saturday. She works tonight and tomorrow and said she "would really like it if I made her dinner and a cake on Sunday". Pretty strong hint. Pretty much screws my weekend for hunting. Dang wives.

I got skunked tonight. I hope to hit it as much as possible, but at this rate it does not look very promising. I am not happy.

Birthdays happen all the time. Hunting is only once a year. I don't get why they pull that shit.

I agree. Definition of irony: Women want you to make all over them on birthdays and Mother's Day. Guys want you to make room and get out of our way. We want to go hunting or fishing. lmao

True that! What really burns me up is when my non hunting brothers or in laws (which is all of them) schedule little birthday parties for their kids during deer season. Check with me first! Lol
Bunch of inconsiderate pricks.
Not only that, but they make the parties at 5:00. Why not after dark?

I feel ya brother! Looking at the forecast. 1-2" snow from 5am to noon. Hmmm. . . .maybe we take care of the snow, and I pay a babysitter to watch the kids in the afternoon tomorrow? Might be thinking hard about this one. Snow on the ground would be sa-weet!

Hitting it pretty hard today. I am still in the need for some bone but won't hesitate to fill the tag on a slick head. Hunting the ridge this morning and probably close to home this evening. Best of luck out there to all going.

Alex and I check the camera with 1100 pictures on it 99% at night. So we said screw it and did some crow hunting. Busted two in about an hour and a half hunt.

Mixed it up. Tried a property I had not seen a deer on stand all season. Corn is down and rut is over. Last week I saw deer around this property twice during daylight while road scouting. I hunted it. Had 13 skinheads/yearlings come across a frozen plowed field 1/4-1/2 mile from the next woods over only to turn around when 75-100yds away and go back. They were down wind of me, but never blew or stomped. Just got spooky as they neared the woods and decided to head back. Not sure if they scented me or saw a coyote. Stand was perfect for the wind tonight. The only direction they would have scented me is if they walked straight across the frozen plowed field. . . and they did. :tantrum:

Not looking good for the last week of the season. Snow coming in today. That is good. Not good for me making it to the woods as I will be working, but might be good for some people. After today, the weather looks to be fairly mild next week. Upper 30's and even in the mid 40's next week. As long as temps stay mild, i am not spending a dime on corn. Haven't done so yet. No sense in starting now. The deer are not starving. They are not going to go out of their way to find food. They are not going to be moving out of necessity to stay warm and resupply their bodies with food. At this point, I am not feeling real optimistic. I have a bedroom to finish the drywall in. I think this will be my major objective this week. I get a shot at a mature doe (in the minimal amount of time I anticipate being able to hunt this week), and i am taking it to wrap up my season.

I am gonna go out tomorrow morning while it is windy and check the five cams I have up and running. Hopefully they give me some intel on where I need to be. Planning on being in the woods tomorrow evening and Tuesday morning, then no more hunting until the weekend.

Keep at it fellas, we are almost there!

Unless I am hunting by the stand, I am not changing any cards. Not going to make a difference at this point. When I am seeing deer road scouting, they are yarded up and in random places. Might not get a shot at one, but then again if you get a shot it will be tough because there will probably be at least 4-5 sets of eyes/ears/noses on you.

That is what happened to me two weekends ago. Went to full draw on a doe and got busted following her by the other two with her. Deer are real skiddish around home right now, and with no foliage, its hard to stay concealed.

Very true. This will be the hardest part if i actually get a shot. Just checked the radar and extended forecast. 54 degrees on Tuesday. Are you freaking kidding me? Then again, I have all day Saturday and Sunday and it looks like back down around 30 on Saturday. Just found out i can sneak out in the morning as well. Hitting it for a few hours and then probably not much until the weekend.

Got 4 does that I have seen exiting the woods at the same spot twice to feed at last light. There are a couple of real biggins in the group TOO. If I can get off work in time this week to move my setup on this property I should at least have a shot on one of them, so it all depends on work this week.

I went out to check my camera last Friday and on my way back saw 3 does feeding in the picked corn. About that time, I noticed movement across the field and out steps a small buck followed by 4 other basket racks. The 6th buck however was a shooter 8 point. I hunted Wednseday night and saw the shooter 8 but never came close enough for a shot. Hoping to get a couple more cracks at him. I was surprised to see none of the bucks had shed yet. I wonder if that has anything to do with the mild winter we have had?

I think I'm gonna hunt tonight and tomorrow morning. I have been running two cams behind my parents since Christmas and the deer seem to be yarding up in the thicket holler to the north. It's been a few years since I have seen the deer stack into this area, so its been nice to see the deer numbers at a point I don't feel bad shooting one. I have one buck that is a for sure shooter and could be tempted by another, plus I'd like a shot at redemption on the doe I wounded in muzzleloader. Then again, I might shoot the first deer, buck or doe, that gets to within 30 yards...

Temps for the weekend look better. Rain/snow mix tomorrow morning. Not sure how I feel about that. Might be better to sit tonight, but not an option for me. Here is the kicker for me: ENE winds. C'mon! Are you kidding me? I think I am going to be hunting mobile rather than one of my fixed stands. I have a couple stands that work for this wind, but not really what I would consider top choices. Oh well. Rain, snow, wind, cold, warm, sunny, cloudy, I don't care. I am going to be out there and do whatever I can. I am going down swinging!
