I drove to Columbus and back yesterday and couldn't believe dust was flying and people planting south of indian lake where hills start to ctown. Meanwhile standing water gets refreshed almost daily here.

I was talking with dad yesterday about his farms. We planted about 80 acres in wheat last fall only to have a horrible stand this spring. The original plan was to put corn out in place of the wheat and put corn in out at one other farm for the rotation dad does. He said that now he is only putting out about 30 acres of corn as of now (feed for the steers we raise) and the rest of the farms are going into beans. Dad is getting pretty restless and is wanting to get into the fields. He is switching to no till this year as we are only going to have a limited amount of time to get out. No till is definitely not our preferred method of planting but we have to do what we can to try to grow our crops.

This is a 1st in my lifetime. Heard 1st hand and saw the plane (I thought it was dusting). They are broadcasting beans from the sky. Wife's friends father had 300 acres thrown out today....

Ive never heard of that being done even in other states. That doesnt seem like it would work out to well. Let us know how that field ends up. Aviation fuel aint cheap its like spraying and praying the beans.

Yep, works great. Different seed though. They usually spread Millet on mud flats. That stuff will grow on just about anything if it's wet.

I spoke to a different farmer before hearing about this. He said u can broadcast beans (hes thought about)but the rain timings have to perfect. I saw Amish planting and tilling in indiana today. looked muddy. I've yet to see a tractor in a field in my county.

Drove back roads from Cridersville to St Mary's, around Grand Lake, back to Wapak, and home. Saw 3 tractors out. One stuck. One turning dirt. One planting.

Lots more no till around this year than normal. They just planted the farm north of us within the last couple days with beans. Been a shit ton of herbicide used in our county in recent weeks!

The soy-beans near me started to turn yellow just the other day, which usually means to me that the deer will be visiting those fields more frequently going forward.

Two more weeks :p

I think this late planting has me all messed up. I have zero ambition to even go out next weekend. It’s still hot as balls and harvest hasn’t even started.

That being said...anyone with a giant on a summer pattern should be out for sure this weekend.
