Pretty sure this is my last hunt this morning on the property. I’m in the stand I usually hunt. Good luck to everyone trying to punch a tag.

Seen a group of does and fawns at daybreak. Think it’s time to pack up and see if I can get on some ducks around the house. Shit might even head down to Venice

Opted out from the camp, ain’t been much movement on the cams. Today is rifle opener also. So stayed home and went duck hunting. Wasn’t expecting much more than a shitshow on opening day on public, and boy was it a shitshow! Pulled in the marina w it almost being full. Can’t enter the nwr till 4am, well I was the only one not in the marsh already. Hit the cut and it looked like people were landing airplanes w all the lights shining every boat they think is coming. They all got an early start which meant I’d have to set up in a shitty spot, which I did. Ended up w 3 teal and a wood duck.

Hunter made it to the camp last night around 7:30 pm. He killed a great deer and was able to put my hands on it. Currently, we are sitting in the stands on property not seeing anything.

So haven’t posted much lately. Me and both boys are up at the camp. My buddy Blake met us at the parking lot on the wma to shoot some wood ducks. Wasn’t a whole lot of birds but we managed to kill 7 this morning.
tomorrow is our primitive hunt for the weekend. Should be nice and warm like high 50’s to 70’s. Time to pull the trigger and use a tag hopefully.

Got up and had rain coming. We decided to go shoot some ducks. We will jump in the woods after the last band of rain leaves.
That one duck has a weird fuzzy tail. Wut kind dat?

Damn tree rat. I seen a red one and thought to myself, if there is two I will shoot them. Well a black one showed up in the same tree. Shot both but one escaped.

I used to have 14 duck and goose mounts. Lost all of them in hurricane katrina. Lost my biggest public buck, several fish mounts. A lot was lost. I do love the green wing teal colors but absolutely hate eating them. They are very gamy/strong tasting like liver.
Now I only have 3 birds mounted, a pair of canvasbacks and a drake pintail. Wife wants me to mount a pair of wood ducks.
My favorite ducks to eat would be cans, then a mix of blue wing teal and wood ducks

After killing my buck we cut the tarsals off to hang. I’m hoping that deer was the bully buck and the reason the 10 and other nice 8’s have not been around. Deer have been skittish out in the turnrows not hanging around but mainly crossing. Today is a new day, hoping Dj gets a good buck.
Hunter is in Arkansas and was hunting 1.5 back in the woods by himself. Killed a doe yesterday evening and will get it out this morning. Temps was 38 at dark and currently 30 now. I do have a pic of the first Arkansas doe.
