Well me and dj hunted this morning only seeing 3 deer total. Came back to camp for lunch. Told dj I had to go to a friends farm because I had to check my gun because I had to use a different bullet. Dj went to the wma right next to where we lottery hunted that’s tore up w sign.
When I arrived at the farm I shot my gun and it was 1/2” lower than the other round. 165 vs 200 grn bullet. Picked up a deer from my buddy and went sat in the woods till dark on the wma. Neither Dj nor I seen any deer.
Hunter on the other hand, killed another doe and the doe he left overnight fed the yotes. He was pissed. Carried this doe out on his back. Anyway, me and Dj going back on the wma for bucks only rifle season. I doubt I will shoot anything but a good deer but who knows. Till tomorrow!

Decided to hunt the property this morning because it’s easy and to tell the truth here, I’m getting burnt out. Happens most years and just when the hunting gets best. From now to the end of the season there is rutting going on. Saturday duck season opens…..hmmm.

We both seen a herd of 12 doe w youngings. They were a group, not just others following. Never seen that many as a family.

All were not harmed. We not short on meat. So since my last post my back started hurting. We got back to the camp and I told dj I’m not hunting this evening, gonna cook a pot of white beans w deer sausage. Dj said he was going to the wma for bucks only. He calls me at 5 and said he just shot a good buck. I headed to the atv trail and walked down 3/4 of a mile and cut in the woods 3/4 mile and met him at his stand. Close shot and quartered hard to him he put the 165 grn in the front crease of his shoulder. We found minimum blood for 200 yards and I said we will hunt here in the morning to pick up the track. Hopefully we find him.
Hunter was on the deer seeming a 140-50 8pt chasing does out of range. This evening he said he seen a 120” w no shot. He will dial it in I’m betting.

We didn’t find djs buck. This morning he had a big buck run a doe under him 10 minutes before shooting time. Had two smaller bucks following. Later he has the same thing happen but a 4 and 6 pt chasing. Later a small 8 follows that scent trail. We back in

Didn’t see anything last night. My back is hurting bad when I stand up. Have to hunch over to walk. This is an old football problem along w being a commercial fisherman most of my life.
Woke up this morning after taking some medicine but still hurting. Opted out of hunting this morning as Dj wanted to hunt his public spot. Hunter is coming to camp by this evening and I’m prepping some rainbow teal to cook in the cast iron Dutch pot.
duck season second split opens in the morning and we will go shoot some wood ducks hopefully. Rain coming tonight, just enough for us to get some mud for a day or two. Not near enough to put any water where we need it.
I really should go home for a couple days and go see my chiropractor to get back normal. Dj hasn’t seen anything as of yet.

It was great catching back up with this great thread Nick. Hope you get your back fixed up soon, been there and life sucks ass when you can’t do what you want when you want.

Hope you get to feeling better bud. It's crazy how much water is missing in the bottoms. I crossed the middle of a dry slough this morning that was probably four hundred yards long and about three and a half foot deep in the middle. There wasn't even any mud in it.

Yeah driest year I’ve ever seen. Usually we crying about the rain, not begging like we are this year. I can hunt in flip flops and never get a toe wet nor muddy. It’s all my fault, it’s my curse or seems that way. All the time to do what I want and Mother Nature says “hold my beer”!

Fuck Ohio and its turkeys. I can kill 2 here, 3 in Mississippi, 2 in Missouri and may even go to Wyoming for some mirriams. .Hope your back heals up by Turkey season….Daves got a good spot!
