Almost messed up royally tonight! Had this guy at 30 yards and thought he was my target 8. When I saw him his head was buried in high tangled weeds but I had a clear shot. I drew back and thought better of it, not knowing for sure which buck it was. There’s also an 11 that’s been hanging around and I don’t want to shoot him. He has some serious potential. So, not wanting to take a chance I let down. Glad I did! I would’ve been pissed at myself. Nice buck, but not the one I’m after.

This is the one I’m after... he’s not much bigger but I don’t think he will add much size next year.

Great hunt Mike! Good to hear you are seeing deer.

No blood on a coyote hit? Not unusual. Their fur soaks up so much blood. They don't leave a blood trail like a deer. The one I shot last night I had to really look hard to see the blood and it was in the snow. Tiny droplets in a spray splatter. Every step it made they were there but I had to look really hard to see them in the snow. They were almost like red pin drops splattered in the snow. Like a mist of blood.

Nice to see that there are still some good bucks around after the rough year your area seemed to have with EHD. Good luck at filling your tag this year but if nothing else should be encouraging for next year's opportunities.

That’s really where I’m at now mentally. Just happy to see some with potential and happy to have something to hunt now. If I get one, fantastic. If not, no need to hide sharp objects from me.

On another note, I Love late season hunting. Got the woods to myself and lots of action.

I went out to the property for a few hrs @ noontime. I needed to get out of the house & wanted to check / move cams & do a bit of recon on travel routes as well since there's snow. I had a nice doe & yearling cut across in front of me while in Scrape Ally with nothing else following. She just stood there in the open for a good five minutes, almost surreal.

No return. I have a couple of days to get it done on this property. It gets pounded for gun seasons! The buck is no stud, but he’s big enough for me. I’d be happy to have him.
