Ground assault tonight. Sitting over an exit between two bedding areas. The only bad thing is the wind keeps swirling and it might screw me over. But whatever... This is a doe hunt so my expectations are relatively low.
All settled in; nothing so far but a coon family eating grapes. Never saw that before, but then again, never found wild grapes still standing where I hunt.

He turned out to be a she and she followed me all the way back out after I was done. Got almost all the way to the truck and she took off into the CRP hot on the trail of some critter and that’s the last I saw of her. I’m kicking myself for not grabbing her up and taking her home. Possession is 9/10 of the law. Hopefully she makes her way back home or to a better home
3 does off in the distance tonight. They were working my way, but wouldnt make it to me in shooting light, so we bailed before we got busted. Mike passed on an up and comer. Overall, great evening to kick off the season.

Last night was a good sit. The deer were on time, not the big doe I was looking for thankfully because the stupid wind changed and I was winded. Had them at 17 yards. I’ll hunt tonight. Good luck fellas.

I stalked to within 30 yards of a really good bedded buck in the marsh tonight. I was able to swing around him downwind and got to an opening I thought he would use. Within two minutes of me sitting down, he was on his feet. I never laid eyes on him again, but I could see the top of a dogwood shaking violently as he thrashed it. So close! Exciting hunt for just the second day!
Feeling good out to thirty yards. Few more weeks of shooting like this and I'll buy a tag.

If you guys thought you had a buck patterned would you hunt in this heat to take a chance at him before the area got messed up?
Yep. They've moved all summer in the heat, so if the pattern says he'll move on a 90-degree day, I'm there tonight. And the next one. And so on until it's clear I need to let things rest.

Definitely if you are confident in what your pattern shows. Crop changes, weather changes, the upcoming rut, etc. and that deer may vanish on you.

I’m out. It’s pretty miserable. I’m 10 yards from the trail I’ve seen a buck walk twice now when it’s been this hot so fingers crossed.
