I’ve been covered up for the last 3 nights. I have seen every age class of bucks around here except 4.5 plus. I passed up a halfway decent 8 numerous times and the neighbor shot him this morning. There have been so many little guys running the does around that I can’t get a mature doe to come in. All yearlings and young bucks.

In my distracted state of mind , I was simply trying to suck on the moment of being out there. I had passed on a scrappy 6ish point 5 times all week. 3:30 give or take all week in an attempt to save my buck tag for the elusive big boy seen earlier in the month. The 3 does and 2 buttons came silently in from behind as I was thinking of packing up. At 30 or so yards the big girl gave me a broad side shot. I held low but not low enough. Hitting her high in the lungs, she mule kicked an ran off. An hour an a half later we started the blood trail. Bright red and frequent…

Over a half a mile later and two puddles where she laid down she was still going. Several properties later we finally called it for the night. Maybe we’ll find her in the morning but she’s running w/ 4 others and over areas of high deer traffic so I’m kinda crushed. In all my past years untill last year I could see em crash from my stand. Last year I lost one to a bow/shoulder
shot when she flinched but I believe she lived. Now this one with the 44 Marlin I’ve taken around 6 with.

No joy in Mudville tonight boys.
