The antler fell off sometime after the shot. I didn't have time to look for it b/c I wanted to get him dragged out and field dressed before dark. I'm gonna try to find it though.
It wasn't the greatest shot, but it was a quick kill. He was quartering a lot more than I thought he was when I pulled the trigger but I still got both lungs. He ran about 40 yards, stopped and did the "what the frick was that?" turn/look thing and then dropped dead. It was a great feeling to see him go down quickly.
The arrow nicked the gut and exited his left hind quarter so I lost a few lbs of meat, but not much. Next time I'll make sure I wait till the angle is better. At the time when I decided to shoot I really didn't think it looked as bad as it apparently was.
At any rate, he's a beautiful deer and it was a great evening! Prayers were answered for sure.
