Got a late start. Settled in about 4:15. Skirted a dink buck with a doe on the way in. Uneventful until i lowered my bow. As soon as it hit the ground i hear crunching, look up and see a silhoutte of a deer about to walk right through the strip of timber i was in. Looked through binocs and saw some nice head gear. 90 percent sure it was a shooter.
Have run out of light TOO many times this year. Fugg.
Ended up seeing 17 tonight. Hunted from 2-dark. 3:05 I had a half rack 8 under me at 5 yards. Then at 4 I had a 100" 7 point dogging a doe all around. 4:45 I had Bucky jr cruise through. Then at 5:10 it broke loose. 9 does came flying off the brush below me. Little Bucky jr dogging them. He pushed them all around me. Eventually he had them all pushed back into the brush. 5 minutes after they disappeared here comes a big doe running at me from the hay field. Behind her are 2 shooters. A 140 and 125. The 140 pushes her into me but he stayed at 35 yards and wouldn't come close enough. She ended up running back into the field and he continued to chase her. Leaving the 125 at 40 yards. He got within 30 yards at one point but it was just too far. Fun hunt and the most rut action I've seen all year.
Awesome day in the woods for me minus #2 buck making me first thing, need snow camo for days like today unless you want to be the black dot on a white piece of paper
Well I had full intentions to hunt this morning but it was a rough night of sleep. My 2 kids didn't sleep hardly at all up every hr to calm the kids back down so when my alarm went off at 5am it got turned off and I went back to sleep lol. So it looks like il be doing an evening hunt. Hopefully no shooters walked by my stands/cameras in shooting light this morning.
I'm leaving to hunt at 2pm. Hopefully I'll be giving an update that I dropped a shooter buck in these cold temps. If not I'll just be sitting out there freezing my balls off lol
I woke up with wife and kids this morning at 5:55 on my day off and checked on the deer roast in the crockpot that's got the entire house smelling delicious! Watched the news and a few hunting shows the ate a late breakfast and cut up some veggies and added them to roast along with some cream of mushroom soup and took a nap...:smiley_coolpeace:
I'll start baking some biscuits around 5ish so they're piping hot for our supper tonight....why do you wanna know this Mike?
