Looking at Husgvarna's either the 240, or the 445. This isn't something Ill be using everyday, but I could definitely use it now. Mom needs some help at her place so Id like to get one. I had an old Stihl, but it went to shit. Anyone have any knowledge on the 2 I mentioned?

With my luck with chainsaws in the past the only model I'll buy is a Stihl. The newer Stihl models are great. Can't help out as I don't loan out mechanical tools from bad past experiences.

Stihl is advertising a sale now. Try Hamilton Rental if interested and tell Dave the owner I sent you if you decide to go that route. May not help but won't hurt.

Managed to cut all this up yesterday with no problem.

I have a Stihl MS170 with a 14" bar that I've had for several years. It is great for what I bought it for: trimming lanes, clearing paths and limbing trees. However it doesn't have the ass needed to do serious work, so I added a Husqvarna 450 with 18" bar. I have not had issues with the oiler like Chad has with his 455. The 450 has all kinds of ass and has proven to be a quality purchase. It is a little touchy to start compared to my Stihl, but overall I am glad I bought it.

Have had a Husqvarna 55 for 10-15yrs and it has served me well. Stihl 029 Farmboss for 19yrs and still going (although a bit tired after 19yrs of moderately heavy use). Stihl 391 bought used last year and like it although my go to saw is a Stihl MS361 which I have used heavily the last 5 yrs. My Stihl saws have treated me well.

I cleared 3 acres of timber to build my house, yard, and pond area with my Stihl MS310. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
With all the wood I sold, I paid for the saw, a 35 ton splitter, and a Ford tractor.

Hmm haven't had a bad gas cap in 25 yrs on 4-5 Stihl saws.

Do your saws have flip caps? I'm not saying the caps do not work. I'm saying they are an over engineered idiotic design. Any other tool that you buy has a screw on gas cap the screw on style has worked for years and there was no need to change it.

I have a 240 and love it! I also have a smaller one, 137. I end up using it most of the time, as it seems to be easier to run and the 16" works fine for most of my type of jobs. 4 pulls on either one and they fire right up and run until out of fuel or you hit the switch.

All screw on caps. Guess I was lucky.

At the local Stihl dealer here if you buy a pack of their oil with your saw or other Stihl tool they extend the 1 year warranty to 2 years. I've walked in there with a couple minor issues and they take care of it free of charge, which is nice. I use my stuff a lot and it needs to work. I've got 3 Stihl chainsaws and 2 weed eaters.

If you want to buy one I'd get a Stihl. If you just need it for a day you can rent one for around 20 bucks.

I am buying a Stihl MS 271 instead of the Husqvarna 455. Just about pulled the trigger then found a few things I like about the Stihl better.

Stihl gets my vote, too. My 290 Farmboss has never given me a problem in 15 years, neither has my commercial trimmer or commercial leaf blower for that matter. the folks I know who really know chainsaws love the BIG Huskie chainsaws, but the smaller ones not so much.

Now I've had nothing but problems with my Stihl weed eater. They put a damn plastic hose in the gas tank with a filter on the end. The tube just melts. But it's 30 yrs. old.

I had any older husky 350 18 inch bar that was made in Sweden.
that thing was great I gave it to my dad after his aluminum body McCullough finally quit after a few decades of use. I now have a German dolmar 20 inch. I was talked into buying the dolmar by two loggers I shoot 3d with. I don't have anything bad to say about it.
