Welcome! Good to have you around.
What do you hunt with?
Have you harvested anything?
(I'm just glad you didn't ask about fishing!) 🤣
Again... Welcome!

yes I have access to private land I want to say its about 25 acres
Have you ever squirrel hunted?

Being that you’re not using archery equipment yet, if you have a .22 I’d be squirrel hunting and scouting for deer at the same time. The two are a lot alike in many ways.
Late season (natural) food sources and prime bedding areas should be the focus on any land you’re scouting this time of year.

Read a lot, watch a lot videos on YouTube and ask any questions on here that you’re not sure of. We’ve all been there and if you’re serious about learning this place can be a gold mine of information.

Muzzleloader season is coming up and the forum is having a deer drive get together at Salt Fork state park. The a thread already started for it. If you don’t have a muzzle loader meat up with the group and do some deer drives with them. Good way to get your feet wet with the forum and learn from some fellas that have a wealth of knowledge. Plus you’ll get some great cardio workout. 😀

Welcome young gun to the best outdoor campfire on the web! Plenty of info here just by browsing the postings, plus much more in the You Tube app.

There are many styles of hunting today, from sitting in a heated elevated blind over a corn pile to tracking them down by following the sign. Stay clear of the monster buck superstars on you tube who hunt their own private zoo's out in the big corn states and stick to how to videos from working guys who hunt Ohio, Pa, Michigan Indiana ETC.

You will learn more checking sign in rabbit cover as you small game hunt your property and the same holds true for squirrel hunting also. I'm up in the notch of Penna. so too far away to be much help to you, but I got about 55 years of in the woods experience, so feel free to bounce questions off of me any time. I'm sure that is true of a bunch of folk around here as well.

Slip around the edge of thickets trying to catch rabbits before they see you and you will see deer too if you mind your wind direction. The entire rut scenario has been laid down and is fresh so walking the edges will lay out where they frequent. Remember, if the sign is out in the open woods it was most likely put down at night and of little use to you unless you can follow tracks, both to and from the sign. You have about 3 solid months of higher education available to you right now to just walk the edges of cover type change. Find the track and back track it to the food or bed and forward track it to the same ends and the deer will teach you everything you need to succeed. Concentrate on the biggest tracks you can find but don't neglect the smaller ones as does bring bucks during the rut.

You Tube: Jeff Doyle and Hal Blood/Big Woods Bucks. They hunt the north east. Now while the hunting method won't work as well for you in Ohio, you can gain years of tracking experience in a matter of a few videos.

Leatherwood Outdoors from Pa can also be a help. Beu Martonik East meets west also. I would also search you tube for Ohio hunts, Indiana hunts too as the terrain should be more similar.

Good luck to you!

As you can tell, we like to have a little fun around here. Dont let it think we dont take things seriously, we are just a close enough group to not take personal jokes, personal. Stick around and we will get you around a campfire and you will completely understand why this place is the best virtual campfire around. You mentioned central ohio and your tag says Columbus. I understand why you wouldn't want exact location but give us a direction. I live about an hour SW of Columbus. I also have a corn pile for squirrels. 🤣
