If the choke extends further out than the barrel,its likely a tight turkey choke from how you described the gun. you should buy a couple looser chokes meaning an improved cylinder and a modified. The choke you have will be marked Remington when you unscrew it and either marked in letters or a size like .660 or .680. or a name other than Rem.
