"New truck"

Long story short. Truck caught fire. She gone.
The thought of rebuilding is there. I did buy it back from the insurance company. Just not sure I have the heart to do it right now. Nor do I have the time. This fire really sort of took the wind out of my sail.
Fast forward to today. I have been kicking around picking up a different truck just to use for my sidewalk crews. It would also serve as a parts fetching truck, firewood hauler, etc. I think I might go a different direction. Maybe I will buy a smaller truck than initially planned. I am going to look at this truck in the morning. He told me $1800 obo tonight. Brand new tires 2wks ago. Engine and transmission "allegedly" rebuilt 50k miles ago. Typical Yota rust but not terrible given the age. Guess I will know more after I look at it.

Says he was t-boned and had 3 rods in his back. Is 6'3" and doesn't bend like he used to so he is selling it. Drives it from Paulding to Toledo 3x a week for therapy. Is on permanent disability. Also said he has 4 vehicles and needs to unload them to get an ext cab or SUV. I did see another ad he had for a truck. Something tells me he may be a horse trader. Claims he hasn't transferred the title into his name yet and is on the second set of 30 day tags. It smells fishy. Like any other used vehicle, I will look it over real well and decide. It is pretty cheap for one of these old Toyotas.
Maybe he would be interested in a trade? Doubt it though. He said he had a couple guys offer trades but he needs the money more than anything. Something tells me $1200-1500 will own it if I have cash in the morning. . . .IF the truck checks out ok.
Plus I am on the fence on what to do with the old Chevy. I still want to rebuild my original 78 Chevy. It has a bad frame. I now have a good donor frame. Just not sure I want to strip two trucks down to the frame to do a complete resto. I don't have the time for this or a good place to strip down two trucks. I also know myself. If stripped to the frame I will go overboard. I can foresee it well. "Eh, we have it down to the frame. Let's blast it and powder coat." Next comes "We powder coated the frame, probably shouldn't skimp on the next step or the step after that." Next thing you know I have a $20k wood hauler because I have sentimental attachment to it but I will still be using it as a wood hauler. lmao
Sounds like a badass wood hauler to me! A kid at work just scored a pretty sweet 85' square for dirt cheap....low miles and ready for paint....91' front clip and came with two of everything. $3,000 I think he stole the truck! Love them old body's. Not sure what I'd do with an old Yota...probably trash it using it like a 4wheeler.

Good luck on deciding your next truck for what you plan to use it for. Its never easy to let something go, but i bet you could get some decent coin offering up the 78' & the 84' together as a package. That could result in a fullsize decent shape truck. That poor yota will die with 500lbs in the back of it (what is that, like 10 logs, lol).

That is my main concern with the Yota. Truthfully though, the square body squatted something terrible with a load of wood. This guy claims the Yota has new shocks and springs which are heavier duty than factory. Not sure I believe him. Not sure it will haul much more wood than our UTV anyway. lol
Tell him you'd like to try hauling a load of wood with it to see how it handles....
Eh. If it doesn't handle it, I can still use it for a sidewalk crew and parts fetcher. Make a pretty nice first ride for Geoffrey. He turns 16 at the end of the month. Graci gets her temps in 4 months. I'm thinking a tiny cab can't haul but one friend. Kids and 2-4 kids distracting them in a vehicle is a bad combo in my mind.

It was in my small town growing up in the 80's. We lost a couple cars full of kids doing excess speeds and ending up wrapped around trees.

I better elaborate. The Toyota would become a company truck. I would sell our 2005 Colorado to myself personally. The 2wd Colorado would become our kids' vehicle.
After all, our company parts fetcher can be about anything small, reliable, and good on gas. Doesn't matter if it is a 1992, 2005, or 2014 model. Just an extra truck sitting around that doesn't pull anything often.
See my above post in reply to Rick. 2wd Colorado for the kids. Air bags. Newer. Likely safer. Not much ass when you press the gas. Seats 2. 3 max. AND I could still have the kids load up stuff and haul it to job sites to drop off if we need something. Better the kids do it to learn a little than payroll expenses. Driving is a privilege. Comes with a price. Sometimes you have to do dad a favor. "Hey kids, load up the spare set of hedge trimmers and a couple rakes. Customer added onto the job when we got here. Chop chop."
