Long story short. Truck caught fire. She gone.

View attachment 50439

The thought of rebuilding is there. I did buy it back from the insurance company. Just not sure I have the heart to do it right now. Nor do I have the time. This fire really sort of took the wind out of my sail.

Fast forward to today. I have been kicking around picking up a different truck just to use for my sidewalk crews. It would also serve as a parts fetching truck, firewood hauler, etc. I think I might go a different direction. Maybe I will buy a smaller truck than initially planned. I am going to look at this truck in the morning. He told me $1800 obo tonight. Brand new tires 2wks ago. Engine and transmission "allegedly" rebuilt 50k miles ago. Typical Yota rust but not terrible given the age. Guess I will know more after I look at it.

Not much different than the picture. Minus the flames. Melted dash. Melted wiring harness. Top half of engine scorched. Master cylinder melted off. Hood was pryed up by fire dept and trashed. Interior stinks of melted plastic. Windshield destroyed. Fenders, cab, doors didn't appear to sustain damage outside of paint (which they needed to be painted anyhow.) Tires, rims, drive train overall should be salvageable. Don't think I'd trust any brake or tranny lines up in engine compartment. I would also pull the intake, heads, top end of the engine apart. Probably check piston rings and cylinder walls at this point and decide how far to go from there. I'd say the bottom end of the engine should be alright. Heads "might" be ok. Basically, a very solid starting point if I were to redo it.

I do like Bigslam's response though. Didn't meet up with the guy today. Tomorrow it may begin to look like a Toyota if this truck checks out as advertised.

That's a shame I had a 81 long bed 4 speed 3/4 and a 85 short bed Auto 1/2 sold the 81 to get money for closing on my first house and sold the 85 when we moved because I didn't have anywhere to store/work on it been looking at a few and haven't found the "1" yet

You can find some pretty solid trucks out there. Depends on how much work you want to do and what the budget is. I have seen several which were pretty far along in the $4000-6000 range. There is one local right now for $5500. Body is in black primer. Aftermarket rims. Lift kit. Guessing 35" tires from the pics. Not sure what has been done to drive train but it is at a pretty solid state of body. I'd guess it could be bought for a little bit less. In my eyes, I'd rather have the body done and work on the rest if needed. That is just me though.

Toyota guy has been elusive. Spoke with him today around midday. He was almost impossible to understand. Me thinks he has a drug/alcohol problem. As long as the truck checks out I really don't care what he does with the money. I mean, I don't wish ill will on him, but that is his business. If this Toyota pans out it could end up being a screaming deal. Dude comes off his binge. Sobers up. Needs the money. Sells for peanuts. I hope this is not the case but as unintelligible as he was earlier, I have a feeling he has issues.

Don't all Toyota drivers have issues?

This might make the list as well. Be nice to have a cap on a sidewalk crew truck. Be a pain if hauling firewood. Sounds like an older gentleman over the phone. Sounds very straight forward. I felt zero shifty business like the other Toyota. Just a solid truck with same owner (second owner) since 2005. Bit more comforting buying off someone like this.
