working on your mower. I have not been on this mower since last September. Nancy does most of the mowing after hunting season starts and mows leaves and pulls a cart around the yard until all the yard work is over for the year. this is the double pulley assembly that transfers power from the PTO belt to the deck drive belt.
that is a grade 8 lag screw with a 1" head. as you can see, there is not much left of the one bearing, and the bolt head is fucked. Now, before I let Nancy on it I looked over the mower, and it started right up. I checked the oil. added a few ounces since it was riding on the low mark on dipstick. Nancy gets on and makes it about halfway around the front yard perimeter and shuts off the mower. comes and tells me something big fell off of the mower. WTF?
this did not happen in the two minutes that the mower deck was engaged today. this has been not right for several mowings. no way this was not noticeable before today. I'll never know for sure what actually caused this, but one thing is for certain, women and power equipment do not mix well. the bolt was tight, had to use an impact wrench to remove it. maybe that top bearing just failed. maybe she ran over or into something. I fixed the exact same problem three years ago, but I didn't replace the pulley. I'm replacing it all this time. I friggin' hate fixing shit all the time. done with my rant now. I think it's 5 o'clock now...
