Ohio vs PA fishery?

im moving to ohio this spring from south western PA and i was wandering how the fishing is out there compared to here. i mainly fish for bass catfish and musky. ill be moving ot the zanesville area.

If you're by zainesville check out peidmont. If you can compete with the Amish you'll do all right. It's a beautiful lake and country. Amish kicked my buddies and I out of swimming hole after we swam all the way there from across the lake. Still a good time. I've been twice and caught a nice catfish and a few bass. Some rock bass by docks.

i live down by waynesburg. honestly the fishing sucks right here but if i drive about 2 hours north southn or east i get into some really good fishing so i was just doing some wishful thinking and hoping the new place im moving is going to have some better fishing. i mainly fish rivers for smallmouth and lakes for largemouth but i also love to go after some big bluegill, crappie, catfish, and muskies. isnt the miami river in ohio some killer walleye fishing?

Welcome TOO the area and the forum. If I knew more about this type of fishing I'd chime in. I'm a hunter and woodworker, just dabble in fishing.

No. You may be thinking Maumee?

That's about a 3.5 hour drive from you. The fishing is good when water conditions are right, but it's combat fishing. Nuts to butts, shoulder to shoulder.

Most rivers and creeks in Ohio will have good numbers of everything you listed except Muskie. Don't over look small creeks for smallmouth. Sure your not gonna catch any wall hangers, but it's fun to have nonstop action when you move from pocket to pocket.

I use really light gear, 4-6 lb test and it you catch a 2 lb smallie, it's a hell of a ride. Ultra light, fast action rod

I'll second smallies in creeks. Absolute blast with light tackle. I have a few pictures of those as well but still can't post a picture.

From your new place, you're about an hour and a half from the Ohio river, plenty of good small mouth action as well as striper and saugeye action....

Yep. Love using a crawdad lure on an ultra-light. Like you said you won't catch many fish over 12" but it is a blast.

Yeah...I'm one of those assholes that has a well producing creek 100 yards from my beer fridge and still don't go out much. Planning on changing that this year though.

Here are some more pictures. The ones were I'm not wearing red/white/blue tank top are from 2013.
