I cant do it anymore , I called it quits on hunting this year due to what happened last year and being tired of how things are these days. However... it's driving me nuts im calling my own bluff i gotta go! Made some calls this week and landed permission on a piece I hunted years ago. It's in a great spot just overran with trespassers but it's my only shot and I'm going to try it . Went today and checked and my old ladder stand is still there ! I left it for the owners family to use if they wanted but its a hard spot to get to (have to cross the river ) . I was shocked how good of shape all the hardware was still in so I threw new straps around it and she's ready to rock. Someone put up a stand right on the property line close to it hopefully they're not using it as it looks old.

Anyways sorry for the long ramble best of luck this week fellas and congrats to all that have scored so far this season!

Got to the farm yesterday afternoon. Got all unpacked, grabbed some dinner and was heading to my daughter’s house, to drop off some items for her.
I always check the fields before I leave to see if anything is out and about. Saw 2 in the lower field, one being a good size bodied deer. Grabbed the binos and looked, here it was a small racked 8 point. Looked young, but definitely a good size bodied deer. The other one was a fork horn.
As I was pulling out of the driveway, another small buck ran in front of me too join his buddies already munching on the cut beans out in the field.
These cold temps have them on their feet early. This was all happening between 4-4:30.
Good luck and safe hunts fellas.

The "orange army" is practically non-existent these days. Seems like everyone kills their deer with a crossbow, in the early season.

I used to hear 20 to 30 shots in the distance, before noon. In recent years, I'm lucky if I hear 10 shots for the day. There being less shots means there are less people out hunting and therefore the deer aren't moving as much. This may be in this area only.

Same in my area compared to the old days. Actually makes for a better hunting experience for myself since I was taught how to hunt deer by still hunting in large tracks of timber. My father was a master at moving slowly though the woods without being noticed. Moving from tree to tree watching and listening seeing before being seen. I'm sitting here wishing I still had a open tag to go out. My nephews and their kids are hunting my spot this week so I'm going down to patrol the road and get in on some dragging fun. Be safe and have fun everyone it should be a good week!🦌

Being a hunter, not a sit and waiter.
