Well, big movement in the clan plan. In the last 60 days we l, Mrs, son and DIL agreed to a COA that is quite simply my wife's dream come true. Can say mine too but if you wrote this in a Hallmark movie many wouldn't believe it. After following me thru my 30 years of assignments and deployments, and raising our kids, with the last of my life as the patriarch of the clan, I'm all in.

I made a calculated remark in Aug it resonated with everyone and this week the kids came down and we cemented it.

Plan is it use this thread to conical it.

They just left, headed back TN. Full moon rising over the bayou and a real Key Lime gin and tonic to reflect on how fragile and wonderful life is.

Many of the above apply for the "Corse Of Action." We're going with.

In Aug on our way to my Daughter's in CO from FL, we went thru TN to see my Son and DIL. While there they brought up, "Mom Dad, you're getting older, what do you think of moving or building a home here in TN on our 10 acres?"

We had demured that a couple times. Nothing really but them in TN, and they're young (30's) so may move etc. We're sitting around the table discussing after dinner. I had been thinking of the COA, have them come down to FL, so I laid it out.

"We have 4 acres on the bayou 200' waterfront what do you guys think of selling your new homestead here in TN and building on our parcel in FL?"

Caught the Mrs and them a lil off guard but spent maybe 10m banging it around. That was Fri evening early Aug.

Mrs and I drove to the OH farm the next morning, spent a night with lifelong friends, Barb sang at our wedding 39 years ago... anyways... the next Tues morning we're driving back the OH from Copley and get a call from my boy.

They tell us they've done a bunch of online looking etc, work opportunities l, homeschooling, schools, things to do etc.. ask if we're serious about them moving down.

Mrs starts tearing up.. I'm like, ya man, I dont screw around with stuff like that.

We agree that it's a a valid conceptual plan. But a huge muscle movement for everyone. Agree to let the idea sit for a couple weeks while we all take stock. I get a week at the farm, Mrs has a 50year friend drive with her to CO hauling stuff to my daughter's. I go to CO meet up with her in a great AB&B we talk - how do we want to live out the rest of our lives.

Fly back to OH, drive to TN meetup with kiddos no early Sep. Yes, we would love for you guys to move to FL, we'll build another residence on the property and maybe some out buildings whatever but the important thing is all the family living on the same property. Step back again now that the conceptual plan is moving into actionable decisions.

They have a traditional home, my boy Zak is a date scientist for IBM, a USAF Academy grad, former Intelligence Officer working from home. So work wise it's just a 'Change Of Address" 👍 DIL Haley is a stay at home mom with a 4 mo and 2.5 yo and they want a couple more kids.

In the rural TN area they're in, there's almost no local jobs he do ~ with comparable pay. Here in NW FL Hurlburt, Eglin AFB's, Pensacola NAS and all the prime and sub contractors- if he ever changes from IBM work .

They brought the whole fam down for a week, just left yesterday evening for TN. This trip was to kinda get some meat on the strawman plan. Also I got the first construction project stsrted. That's the next post, project manager, systems engineer, family patriarch Stressless guiding this thing thru.

With all that, I told my workplace last Thursday.

I am officially unemployed (first time since 1981) and retired. This project will require my fulltime effort.

Stage setter. Bought the bare parcel in 1999, Told the Mrs we'd need to build seawall on the bayou after the next Hurricane. Welp, after Hurricane Ivan in Sep 2004, and durring the 80% rebuild from a lightning strike.fire in Jun 2004 i got after the seawall.

Created 1/4 acre of high dry level cleared waterfront for $76k. Construction, fill etc. soup to nuts.

When we bought the parcels and sited the house we had two objectives, make it an investment, build so if we had to sell a parcel to pay whatever might come, we'd try and keep the entire waterfront. With the investment idea we sited out home a little to one side, that way is we developed it and moved we could sell another waterfront parcel. Mrs was a stay at home mom and I was a young Major... not alot of $ coming in so contingency planning I was deploying alot in those years, 2000-2006.

Back to current events. This week we solidified the plan, momma and I will build the new residence, and move there, kiddos get the or our current 'big house' to raise the new family in. Momma and I, we're downsizing into the smaller 'new' house.

Site plan on the 4 acres in sequence.

1. New 2nd terrace seawall.
Needed to set the FEMA Flood zone rating where we need to build the new, 'Guest Cottage' parallel to the existing home.
On-going

2. Climate controlled pole barn.
Needed for storage of all our stuff TN and FL thru moves and construction.

3. Build guest cottage.
Our new home

4. Build pavilion for common area between the homes. Outdoor cooking, fireplace etc. Open simple, concept design.
