My Christmas present from my wife…

I have done some pretty good meals on it so far. It is quite a bit different from my Smoke Hollow smoker. So far I like it.

Got the propane grill out earlier this week and realized how bad of shape it was in and not worth putting any money into since I’ve had it almost 10 years. Upgrading to a pellet grill now. A heads up for anyone looking for one this grill is on clearance at Menards for $261 which I thought was a hell of a buy, of course it’s with there rebates so I’ll have to use the savings at the store. I was originally going to get the small Pit Boss that lowes carry’s till I saw this one this morning and just looked like it had more to offer for the price. I will get some pics once it’s up and cooking but not today with this weather. It’s not a huge grill but will be the perfect size for me and the girlfriend.

The weather was nice today and the grill was put together. Did the burn in then it was onto cooking dinner. Pork chops and asparagus and damn it was good!!! I typically don’t even cook pork chops because I’ve always had a hell of a time getting them perfect, I always tend to overlook and dry them out. This thing made it too easy! Set it at 300 degrees and waited till the chops hit 145 degrees and pulled them. Then turned the heat up to 450 opened the flame broiler and threw on the asparagus for a few minutes per side and that was it. Wish I’d gotten one of these grills years ago!

Congratulations on the purchase. I highly recommend scooping out the pellets till you get down to the last quarter portion of the bag THEN sift the remaining pellets to remove any dust. Dust hurts maintaining temperature as it tends to build up around the heat source(rod/element) if it’s an auger fed stove, IMO.

I’d also use ONLY pellets that your smoker recommends.
I learned a big lesson with this. I have a Traeger and they recommend only using Traeger pellets. I shop Menards more regularly than places that sell the Traeger pellets so I bought Pit Boss brand of pellets that look pretty much the same. WRONG!🤦🏻‍♂️
They must be formulated different cuz I even stored them in dry conditions and they burned totally different and had my temps everywhere. I vacuumed it all out a few days after I last used it and went with Traeger pellets and it’s running like it should be and maintaining set temperature like it should be. I just wished the hopper design was better so I didn’t have to check on it so often to make sure the pellets aren’t piled up on the sides of auger pit and it’s constantly feeding them.

Hmm, I just bought some Cabela's pellets that were on sale a little while back. Will be interesting to see if I have trouble with them in my Traeger.

Make sure you have some Traeger on hand just in case Chuck. I’ll never use anything else in mine and I have several large bags of Pit Boss…😐
