Congratulations to all the ones who got it done. Some very nice bucks dropping. I figured today and tomorrow would be the days now that this front moved out and before the new one rolls in.

Lousy service where I’m staying, pictures too follow when I get back too civilization
We’ve been hunting down at the orchard all week. Started Monday afternoon @1. My brother hunted with us and connected on his best too date buck. Basket rack 8 point. No other shots were fired but his .450. Tuesday, a few more guys showed up and more shots were fired, but again my brothers .450 connected on a button buck. Wednesday the weather went too shit. High winds and dead ash trees don’t mix. So we took the day off from the orchard and I hunted at the farm where I’m staying. Zero deer seen in those winds.
Sam was still out in Seattle visiting his son and DIL. They got back into town Wednesday evening. He was going too get some things done around the farm and get with us for some drives in the afternoon. Fast forward a little later we were hunting the afternoon and not the morning.
Met Sam and we had lunch together @ noon and headed over too the orchard. We got the game plan and we’re in place around 1:30 ish. Sam and I and another fella lined up across a holler. 3 other fellas were pushing it towards us. First shots rang out. Sounded up top, a little while later I see 3 deer heading my way. 2 doe and a buck as it turned out. Lead doe was the largest. Second Dow was a little smaller and couldn’t make out the third one. They ran straight too me and just below me. Big tree blocking the lead doe. She finally walked away from the tree and I shot her @10 yards and she plowed down the hill. Did a somersault a gymnast would be proud of, although she didn’t stick the landing and slid down a hill.
Drivers were finally catching up too us. Guy on my side started too help me gut mine. He mentioned he saw something run up the opposite side and about that time Sam’s gun barked. The fella with me walked over too see if Sam had connected. He had, 8 point buck. Shot it 1/3 the way up the holler and it did the death slide all the way too the bottom. No somersaults were reported. Once I was done cleaning up my doe, I dragged it up too a skid path. Went over too where Sam was. Come too find out the guy up on top also killed a buck. It too was at the bottom. 3 for 3 and all at the bottom of a very deep holler.
We formulated the plan too get these deer out of the hole we were in. Started said plan. My deer on the skid path, Sam’s deer getting ready to go to the skid path, last guys deer was in transit too skid path. Once the 3 of them got the buck there they took a breather. Sam and I were BS’ng and then more shots rang out. 2 too be exact.
Well add 2 more deer too the count. For those who have problems with math, that makes 5 deer, one drive in a little over an hour…..
All deer were ferried via a Polaris SxS too a GMC standard cab, 8’ bed truck, said deer were hauled too the staging area for hero photos. Photographer might have been a little cell phone camera challenged. But hey, you’ll have that…. He tried
@Ohiosam if you could please post said photos so these fine fellas don’t be thinking I’m bullshitting I’d as well as they would appreciate it.
It was a record breaking drive for the orchard hunt. Sam’s been doing this since he’s been outta diapers. Me I can’t remember how long it’s been, but closer too 10 then 5…. I think the record had been 3 on one drive up too this point….
This week of deer drives is about as old school as you can get…. Well, because we’re all really old…. Youngest guy today was 40
But tomorrow we’ll have some youngins with us, they’re in the early 20’s Me? I’ve filled two tags. Saving my last for muzzleloader. Tomorrow and Saturday I’ll be donning 2 ski poles and walking my ass off up and down those hollers moving deer for the guys who need freezer meat…..

An explanation of this pic- Was bsing with the processor while he was skinning my deer. As he pulled the hide off the bullet fell out. I shoot a .375 Win loaded with 220 grain soft points Traveling about 2200fps. Shot the buck at ~30 yards through the left front shoulder and it stoped under the skin by the right rear leg. Recovered bullet weighed 151.4 grains which is 69% retained weight which I consider excellent perfomance.

Great looking deer down this week! I can’t wait to get some more sit time. And hopefully fill my tag, and get my first ever deer.

Gas stations are packed with camo this morning. The part I don't understand is every one of the guys I've seen are wearing their rubber boots around. How many of yall stop anywhere with them on? You know this defeats the purpose, right? Them runner boots are still going to pick up the scent from the spilled gas you just stepped in.

Came for breakfast and just headed back to the big pines again.
Very slow the last two days. Hopefully today and this weekend, deer
movement picks back up.

I wear mine wherever and whenever. I like rubber boots to keep my feet dry crossing creeks. Is there another reason?
