I keep a pretty close eye on the Hocking River USGS gauge for fishing. Last year was the worst year for low water levels that I recall from the past 20ish years. That's not precise science, just my recollection. What is really weird to me is that we typically would see good fishing levels on the gauge for March-May when it's around the 5' mark. I'd fish it if it was under 6', but closer to 5' meant optimal combinations of water level and clarity. We've had a lot of rain this spring, with the Hocking being WAY up a few weeks ago. I just checked the gauge now...it's at 4.2' and still dropping. It's a scary thought from the fishing side of things, to me. When we hit the "dry months" of SE Ohio, late June-August, it looks like it will get pretty bad again this summer because we're already over a foot below what I'd expect right now.
