Remington 870 Express Mag scope options

I debated buying a cantilever barrel for my 870 for months and decided to buy a single shot h&r slug gun it was less than the barrel and I couldn't be happier, it puts my hornady slugs into the same whole at 50 yards.

Are the H&R'S pretty accurate out to 100+?
 
I am leaning heavily towards the Savage 220. My buddy said there is minimal recoil. I need to shoot a couple rounds out of his to see how "low recoil" it is. My thinking is: My son. Not only would I have a tack driver of a shotgun, but this may very well be a good fit for my son as well. Not sure if it will be next season, the season after, or next week. If a steal of a deal came along I would buy it, but not actively pursuing it since I am all done for now.

I know lots of people are fans of the Mossberg combo, but I have one and I must say I am happy as hell.. I have the field barrel that I use for rabbits and messing around and then I bought the 28" field barrel with screw in chokes and run the hastings extended turkey choke @ 0.665" with a Nikon red dot with the Aimpoint mount that turkeys been taken past 50yds and I've blasted the shit out of shit in the trees way up with #4 buck with my choke barrel setup. Then for Deer I bought the Mossberg 24" slug barrel with the cantilever mount with a 3-9x40 Buckmaster, which I use the Federal Barnes expanders slugs, which they don't make anymore but I'm glad I bought 50boxes of it when they did because I can key hole 3 shots at 100 all day with it. and I've screwed around and have hit plates at 300 on a somewhat consistent basis just to see what they can do.

JMTC, for dollar for dollar I don't think you can go wrong with a Mossberg.. Its the old age thing.. Chevy vs Ford.. Same thing when people talk about Mossberg vs Remy. good luck.

Im a Savage guy too and i'd like to see how they perform also, because it it can out perform my current setup, id consider it and use my Mossberg as back up or as a family setup... Only thing im not a fan of is the fact they come with short barrels. I'd like to see that Savage with a 28" barrel. Cost benefit analysis is a big factor. Don''t need it, possibly want it but only at a major deal...
 
I have the 870 rifled barrel iron sights.. Love it!! Ill confidently shoot, rested, out to 150 with it and the accutips. I also have a muzzy that I'm comfortable with to 150. I have two friends that love their 500 combos. Sighted in my wife's 20 ga 500 this weekend just for s's n g's at 200 on bags that thing held a 6" group twice on metal plates. We all had the extra barrel to swap to for drives and sitting we would use our sabots slugs and riffled barrels. This year I was a really good boy and Santa dropped off a savage for deer season/early Christmas, I'll never sit with another weapon during gun season. The accuracy of that was next to unbelievable, 4" at 200 yards bagged and on my 4th slug tried. I started with accutips they've been my go to for a while now, then the Remington copper solids no luck, the winchester didn't work out but the federal 275 gr 3" 20ga 1900 fps was the ticket. Used my Nikon spot on ap to optimize the load it recommended sighting it for 160 I hold at the heart from 35 to 160 from there to 200 it will drop almost 7". Still hold on hair not air. I haven't had the opportunity to try it past 130-140 but that deer didn't step spin twirl jump or quiver it just fell. Depending on how much $ you have to spend I'd check gun shows for a savage, should be able to get one for around 4-500. Next I'd put that bad experience behind you and go get the 500 got my wife's from dicks for 329 two weeks ago. Its nice to be able to swap guns or barrels to suit the style of a hunt.

Recoil is pretty minimal with the 2.75" shells, but it packs a pretty good whallop when shooting 3" mags. You really dont need to shoot 3" so I wouldn't worry about recoil. Its got a great recoil pad... Like a squishy gel or something.
 
I have the b-square saddle on my 870, never had any issues with it. Gun Holds a nice pattern, and the mount is solid year to year. I have had it on there for about 8-9 years now.
 
Buy the Savage you will be glad you did. A good friend of mine has one and it is the real deal. I would recommend the 220 it has plenty of knock down power and shoots flatter than the 212. It is a great design and with the accutrigger it's as close as you can get to shooting a rifle. This gun has the best groups even at 200yds I have ever seen out of a slug gun, I plan on buying one myself.
