Ric and Karissa's hunting journal for the 2016-2017 season

Thanks guys!! Just hope she has some time during the rut coming up! Very busy schedule at school this year!

After getting settled in before deer started moving I had her stand up and practice drawing, her setup and aiming at something then letting down. She said, "Its a whole lot different on a smaller hang on platform than a much bigger permanent platform stand like she was shooting from behind her papaws!" Lol

She just needs to keep practicing and getting more use to standing, drawing and maintaining her balance while aiming and she'll be fine.

Here are a few more pics

I took this pic before she shored up her bow level but this was her most comfortable position(straight out to the SW) at the inside corner where I grunted TG8 through. She has the support of the stand and tree behind her so it wasn't as unnerving. :smiley_crocodile:

Yeah it took me a few before I was completely comfortable standing and drawing from a stand but it will come good luck with the season hope you both fill some tags

Thanks everyone! It's been a real fun experience for the both of us! It was pretty cool getting the tap on my leg and seeing her pull down her gaiter from her mouth then whispering, "There's a small buck,a spike I think, clear out there on the other side of the field! Can I use your binoculars?"...lol I bought her her own pair of binos but she forgot them for this trip! She got to watch him work the overhead branches of a scrape which was also neat!

Im sure she had seen you do that in the back yard

Well, over my short Stroud Run weekend trip I squeezed in two uneventful hunts. The first was on my way there when I stopped by our lease and hunted from Ron's blind down in the pinch. I sat in the wind and rain from 4:15 till 7 and got skunked.

Then yesterday before last nights big shindig I drove 30 minutes north to our farm to hunt a great thick bedding area with the same NNW wind as the night before. Both hunts were perfect with this wind direction but for whatever reason the deer still weren't moving much but I did see 2 does about a 1/2 mile away on neighboring farm across the big hollow and one big line deer quietly sneaking up the hill behind me as I was starting my descent around 7 last night. It was too dingey to tell what it was but by the size of body and the way it walked I'd say it was a buck but don't know for sure. I climbed up at 4:15 and hunted till 7.

Here are some pics of last nights hunt
