Safety harnesses and other safety

Hey Everyone! This is Adam. A friend and hunter that we have tracked for... (He fell 20 feet Sunday doing a deer stand) He is in a world of pain (3 cracked vertibrae) and lucky to be alive....
PLEASE BE CAREFUL!
His Own Words: "I Never Thought It Would Happen To Me"

This is a great reminder. I am always trying to be safer as I grow older. One thing I do not see discussed as much as prevention is recovery once the fall happens. Obviously without harness/tether/linemans/safety ropes there is no recovery but if you do fall and your restraints are in place and work what is your next move? I haven't had to do this YET but I play scenarios over in my head as to what I would do hanging from my harness/tether etc? How will I get back to my stand or on my stick? If a full length safety rope how am I descending and relieving stress on thighs etc. I do not have all these answers but it is important to consider them all. Is my phone always on me, does someone know where I am, can I cut myself down if I need to? I wish I was strong enough to always pull myself back to where I need to be but what if I can't? All of these scenarios are way better than falling and defying gravity but still important to think thru in my opinion.

Sure hope for a speedy recovery! Definitely thinking of him and all the other hunters getting after it to get ready this season. Still see plenty of pics and videos of people setting stands without harnesses on AND tied in.
