So after reading Jesse's post, and hearing the concerns of other members regarding posting of bucks online, I think I have a plan but want member input.

To keep guests and lurkers from seeing posts we can create a private forum where only contributing members can read threads. Entry to this forum can be set on a merit basis such as post count and time as a member. A person would need to meet both criteria before being allowed entry. For example, Must have been a member for more than 1 year, with more than 200 posts. While attracting new member and making them want to contribute to the forum is important, it's more important that our members who consistently contribute feel safe in doing so. If lurkers and guests are harming the contributing member experience then something has to be done.

What is everyone thoughts on the plan, and what do you feel that threshold should be?. Bear in mind this shouldn't be completely prohibitive, we realistically have to make it obtainable to members who have shown their worth such as been a member for over a year and contributed over 200 posts. This will cut out 99.99% of those people who just lurk and read. The intent is to make sure the people who see those posts aren't just e-scouting for information. This forum would be for posting harvest and trailcam pictures. Basically anything that would show your cards.

I saw Jesse's post but it was cryptic enough i didn't know what had happened.

I'm all for protecting the interests of the contributing members.

Yes internet scouting is a big thing. Also you could put the timeline higher. Anyone could blast post and get to 200 easy. The timeline is most important in my eyes.

People suck and I've been known to attack the ones that don't contribute. So I'm game. To be honest, I wouldn't care if you closed the forum to the public and only gained from recommended members. But in the end, I'm in for whatever keeps this place going. I don't have any deer worth being worried about anyways. So maybe I should just shut up and stay out of this.

Damn people do suck, so I am correct in understanding that a lurker has been stalking people's post about deer and then going after them? Do whatever we have to protect each other. Sad sad world we live in.

Joe also got my texts on it. In short, between my FB, which is "friends" only, and here, I got moved in on by a local who had screenshots of deer I've posted here and on FB. It's not the first time I've had issues with people misusing content from here. I've had pics stolen from here and used elsewhere on the internet and at least one other time, it was clear someone hunting near me was doing so based on what they've seen here.

Yes I don’t post a ton but I have been around a long time
I am sure I am past the threshold but if you set these parameters how will new people get to see what a great site this is? And start contributing?
I have never had a face book account Probably never will but I think access to the Ohio out doors should not be prohibited 🤷🏻‍♂️
obviously I am not a social media person so I don’t understand all that is involved

Something we have to be mindful of also is we still need to provide content. If the goal is unobtainable then people will never register or participate to begin with. It would effectively wall off content which would be a death sentence to recruitment and people who drift away would never be replaced. By the time a poster reaches 200 posts they've been around long enough for people to get a read on them. Someone could blast up 200 shitposts but I think it would be pretty obvious what they're doing.

I would be open to nominations for newer members that have a reference from a member already in this forum.

Agreed and an easy process.

Well past that threshold buddy. I would be very hesitant to go over a 200 post requirement and would like to land in the 150 range personally. I don't disagree with you, whatever is decided it shouldn't be completely prohibitive. The walled off forum would only be for members to post trailcam or harvest pics they're already not posting due to the risk of people moving in on them. The hope is it would be no loss to existing content, but rather add content that is being held back today.

Not so much post count but have a probation period. Kind of like sportsman's clubs. Prospects are sponsored in by a member then after a certain time frame existing members vote them in or out.
