Joe also got my texts on it. In short, between my FB, which is "friends" only, and here, I got moved in on by a local who had screenshots of deer I've posted here and on FB. It's not the first time I've had issues with people misusing content from here. I've had pics stolen from here and used elsewhere on the internet and at least one other time, it was clear someone hunting near me was doing so based on what they've seen here.
What a dick thing to do, if it was me and I knew the person I would have a hard time not confronting them about it. I hate this kind of crap, why do people suck so much.

How would this work with IKS threads? I know some people love them and some absolutely hate them, but they have a ton of post and clicks. They gotta be good for the site.

I lurk here often during deer and turkey season. I do not really post or contribute due to the fact that it isn't really something that I can keep up with on a regular basis..........maybe I should make more of an effort because I do and have always enjoyed the content here. People suck and it's unfortunate that you have to consider things like this. I would hate to miss out on the best content. Just my $0.02 for those like me...........except for the assholes that are on here scouting deer.

Not so much post count but have a probation period. Kind of like sportsman's clubs. Prospects are sponsored in by a member then after a certain time frame existing members vote them in or out.

It's a thought but I don't think we want it to be that exclusive. There are a ton of members and not everyone knows everyone. I think that would hurt overall more than help. We're really trying to solve a pretty rare problem, there's not a visitor behind every tree trying to slip in on someones deer. But it does happen. I think we need to make it just difficult enough so it's not worth it to them. An investment of posts and time.

I don't think dead deer really matter. There are tons of people all over the net posting dead deer.

Mostly I want it to be for people to feel comfortable sharing their TC pictures of live deer. Maybe live season journal threads about a buck or bucks they're actively chasing.

I'm also thinking about removing the location information from everyone's profile. It doesn't really provide a ton of usefulness and if someone needs to know they can ask, to which that person can decline to answer.

Thank you for chiming in. Good to hear outside perspective. I'm not a webmaster, but I'd have to think there is still a need for traffic and content. This site has zero sponsors, but they have to pay the bills somehow. Donations only go so far.good thing Jackalope works for free. đŸ¤£

It would be interesting to know how many people enjoy the site who don't even have an account. Or how many are like yourself with an account which is pretty quiet.

I’d say normal content like daily hunting reports, etc should stay visible to all as usual. But it would definitely be nice to have that barrier where members can feel more comfortable posting somewhat sensitive information such as deer, property improvements, family related content, etc. It would be nice to have that feeling when you’re sharing certain things with tried and true members.

This is probably why I don’t post more. I know it’s dumb but I guess I’m just paranoid. I think I would probably post more and include more pictures if I didn’t worry about someone lurking and knowing where I hunt. However, I don’t have a great recommendation. I lurked for awhile before I felt comfortable enough to join in. Wish there was a way to judge everyone’s integrity. I like the idea of members vouching for someone.

It really is unfortunate. The reality of making a change like this, and how it would impact far more honest people than the few dishonest ones isn't lost on me. At the end of the day, the members that are here, yourself included, need to feel that they can safely contribute. I would love to hear more about your plots and see pics of the bucks you're chasing. If members hold back pictures and posts out of fear, then there isn't really much to read and the place dies. The intent is to increase content through trust and confidence. The fact that you even commented and then posted an introduction says a lot.

There's absolutely a need to maintain a balance of fresh content that attracts visitors who hopefully become members. If everything is behind a wall nobody will ever stay long and search engines will hate us. Look what's happened to our once-upon-a-time competitor and that place is dead.

Right now we have about 145 members that log in and about 544 unique visitors per day. Some of those unique visitors are returning users who aren't members and some come from Google and leave after reading what they were looking for.

When I make a thread, it gives me options to make it a pole. Can we make it an option for private? This would give the person making the thread the power to limit who sees it.
Yea then when he talks shit about Dustin he can keep him from seeing it. Lol

A truer statement has never been made. The ugly reality is that most laws and regulations are intended and directed towards the the lawless but have the biggest impact on the law abiding. Gun laws would be an example of this directed intent not hitting it intended target. You can't legislate bad actors to not act badly any more than you can create a trusted circle where all content could be shared freely unless that circle of trust is extremely small. The reality is in this age of electronic immediate communication you must either be guarded with information you post, here or anywhere else, or be accepting to the fact that what you post is available for all to see. Has someone really earned trusted status based solely on post count? Is there a mostly trusted circle and maybe a very trusted circle within the broader trusted circle? What would prevent someone in the trusted circle from sharing data posted within the circle with someone outside of the circle?

I have over 1200 posts here. I would qualify to be in the circle but I would hope that any trust you may or may not have for me would not be based upon a post count. I would like to believe it would be based upon personal interactions I've had with some of you. I assure you I was just as trust worthy when I had 1 post as I am with 1200 posts.

TOO is a private platform. It was born out of the rubble of another site to provide a home for those that wanted to be able to freely express their thoughts and share their passion for the outdoors with like minded people. It has been very successful in that endeavor. It is really all about the vision of those that own and run TOO as to what they want the platform to be in the future and what membership they choose the choose to serve.

Just my opinion, doesn't mean crap, I hope you can find a balance to still provide content to new members and grow the site while providing some safeguards from those that that have nothing but ill intent.

I was honestly confused when I started reading this thread and still can't wrap my head around it. Maybe I'm just an idiot but that seems like a lot of work to go on a forum and try to pinpoint someone's exact hunting location by looking at pictures and such. I don't have any social media Facebook or anything like that and I've never ran trail cameras so I'd be safe I guess but I can't process in my head what douchebag takes the amount of time needed to poach out a forum and pin point someone's hunting grounds and specific deer they're after. That's insane people are truly rediculous. I should post fake pictures and get them all excited about a big one that doesn't exist. Then I'd love to see the look on their face when they show up with no deer to be seen and an amish guy climbing a tree from them 50 yards away đŸ˜‚. Anywho back on track , I'm game for whatever you guys decide

You don't need the internet to encroach. I've had a couple guys go to every land owner where they've seen my truck parked and try to gain permission. Half of them give permission to everyone. The internet just brings a new level of dirty and unethical into the equation.

My issue isn't with random dudes from somewhere else on the globe. It's with locals that know me, know I co-own this site, and know where I hunt. Small town life is great, until it ain't.
