I'd try talking to him, don't be a dick about just be respectful. Try and get an idea of whether or not this guy understands the courtesies of hunting, maybe he's just new and really doesn't know. I know I did some really dumb stuff when I started out that I wouldn't do today for various reasons. Get everyone together that hunts the property and just tell em how it is, y'all gotta make it work or everyone is gonna get the boot. Remind them of their agreements they have with the land owner and come up with some common courtesy rules for the place.

NO this guy is a piece of work. He has no courtesy whatsoever. The day he pulled up as I was spraying down and about to make the 1/2 mile track across the Ag field. He asked if I was hunting, mind you I'm fully dressed in camo, and I replied, "sure am." He said "alright, me too, good luck." Before he drove off, I told him to wait, let's talk so we don't fugg each other up. I told him where I was going and he said he was going to the same section. Me, being respectful, said go ahead I'll hit another stand. This guy drives all the way across the field and parks his truck to within 200 yards of the stand. Not one deer came out to feed that night, imagine that. As far as getting information from him, he couldn't tell Ryan or I anything we don't already know. We've been hunting this farm exclusively for going on 9 years. It is what it is and to be honest, I'd rather have nobody hunt that section than to share it with this guy. That is of course, because we also have exclusive permission for the property directly next to it...
Tell him to get the fuck back on the other side of the creek then!

You know how it is up here, small woodlots surrounded by corn and or beans. Doesn't take much to fugg the program up, even if you're smart about it.

Idk I frequently park within 200 yards of my stand. Lots of times my truck is within 100 yards of where I sit. Did the same hunting up north on <5 acre wood lots. Deer get used to vehicles. Seems there's a little anomisity towards having to share it with a new guy since y'all have had it for so long. New people bring changes, just how she goes.
These deer are very timid when it comes to vehicle traffic, Ryan can vouch for that. AND when they do spook they bust out and run to the next county. If your talking about a 3.5+ year old buck that gets bumped, he won't be back for awhile, if ever. One of the main reasons I don't kill a good buck consistently down there. It's so easy to get busted hunting up this way even when you're being careful.

I would never hunt another persons stand. I want to kill a deer because of my thought process.
I found a guy from Alabama sitting in a blind I set up for my son a few years back. I took it down as he tried to scramble out. I told the landowner about the incident as he had planned to take his grandson to the blind at some point. He told the fella to go back to Alabama with no plans to return. I put the blind back up so the grandson would have a good place to hunt but I don't thing he ever did.
Incidentally on the same farm I've found shells littering the ground under some of Mason's stands after gun season. The Amish used them so I no longer leave any up. Does that make me a jerk? Don't care

Your experience reminded me of a natural blind I made specifically for my son years ago for his first time out ever. I spent a lot of time and effort making up this location only to have it ruined the day before I took him out. Someone hunted out of it the prior evening.
Boy was I pissed. I found a few spent shotgun shells on the ground. Nobody had permission to be hunting that property other than myself.
That's when I had to have a little sit down with my son and explain to him how hunting is these days.
Yep,,, far different that what it was like when I first started out that's for sure.

I had an issue a few years back with a neighboring landowner that was a real doozy. I have permission to hunt a property that was owned by his elderly dad. The dad eventually sold the property to the farmer. I still had permission on this Farm. The guy's son and two other land owners owned the neighboring farm. Both of those landowners had given me permission and said that I could hunt whenever I wanted. I had a stand on that property near a creek bottom with a well-established mineral site that had been there for years. I show up to hunt one day and there is a sign on my stand saying that I need to move it because I can't hunt that spot. Not wanting to cause issues I move the stand. Not a week later the douchebag put up a stand on the same tree. Basically he wanted to hunt that spot because of the sign around the mineral site so he told me I couldn't have my stand there anymore.
While the two landowners were cool I got tired of dealing with the one douchebag and just decided not to hunt over there anymore so I hunted on the neighboring property owned by the farmer. His ex dads place. I set up a feeder on this property just to see what was there during gun season I got a picture of him ripping the motor off of the bottom of the barrel. About a month later I got pictures on my cellular camera of someone stealing my cam. I called to ask him who was hunting out there and if he had any leads. He blew up and got all kinds of irate and denied knowing anything about it. About a week later I get a picture to my phone of his ugly ass resetting up the camera. I called and confronted him with this and he still tried to deny it. Once I told him that he could deny it to the Sheriff's Department he admitted it and promise to return my camera. I'm guessing getting charged with theft does not look good to the bar if you are a big shot Columbus attorney.
After all of this I just decided it wasn't worth dealing with his ass anymore and stopped hunting around there. I'm not going to say in an open forum how I years later settled the score, but if you know me well enough then you know i did it up right.

To share or not share stands is not a one size fits all proposition, there is no right or wrong answer or opinion. It will vary by hunter and the intent. What may make perfect sense to one seems unfathomable to the next and they are both right. Hunting to kill a deer is much, much different than hunting to kill the deer. When we hunted out of state in PA, IN, MI, KY we weren’t targeting any specific animal, we couldn’t, we didn’t even know what was available and we were only there a few days. We shared stands all the time on those hunts trying to make sure everyone got an opportunity at taking home “a deer”. Back in Ohio, on our home grounds we never even consider sharing stands because our goals were different. We were trying to kill “the deer”.

I should have clarified. I've put countless people in my stands. I fully hoped this folks would kill deer. Quite a few really good ones died that way. I'm not selfish. However, if I find an uninvited guest in one of my stands, it makes me moody.
I didn’t bump this thread in any hopes for anything besides conversation. Bringing on another season, this is one of the things I think about. Kim nailed it, everyone has there different thoughts and reasons. To each their own.
Much like how I invite people to come hunt during the Strouds thing, I truly enjoy hunting and anyone having success. (Which is also in the eyes of the holder and not measurable)
