Solar panels, solar energy

@Clay Showalter

Looks like the average payback period down here is 13 years. Duke will give you some rebates, as long as you tie into the grid and allow them control of the batteries. With all the incentives it looks like you’ll save roughly 50% on the installation. Unfortunately NC only gives you a tax break on the actual increase in value of the house because of the install.
This is going to be for our new build in Virginia, we are looking at this because we are so far off the road that it will cost a lot to run power to the house. It will be interesting The tax credits that I looked are Federal.

After dishing out $40.000 plus lower performance than what they were promised. They are still paying a electric bill after buying the system at about the same rate they were paying before. Those batteries are not going to last forever. If it can't run my furnace fridge freezer and A/C on its own I don't know what I'm really getting from it. That's just my thoughts on it.

New technology is really helping costs/efficiencies/output, but tax credits are gone under Trump. We're still keeping a dedicated solar system for the barn on the table, and when the house needs a new roof in 20yrs, hopefully they are competitive. Along with battery technology, feels like the trajectory for it to get there in another 10yrs., we shall see.

Just shy of 5yrs of usage data says we would need 82-83 panels for 100% coverage. Hopefully 500w panels are released sooner than later.

Here is our last 3 months for this year. We usually have about 2 $50 bills from AEP a year. One in January or February and sometimes one in July or August if it gets stupid hot. My kids also seem to have some aversion to turning lights off and making sure doors are shut all the way, which doesn’t help either. We jumped on the metering program when tax incentives got pretty good. We run 2 fridges and all the common household items along with both garages and my wife charges her van on the system as well. Ours is a 32 or 36 panel set up, can’t remember off the top of my head.

Thanks BW, very cool to see! Do you have an estimated break even point (in yrs.) with 2yrs of data? How about some pictures (roof, outside in yard rack, permanent angles or adjustable, 300-350w panels? Then there's the batteries and monitoring system. Please share what you want, I appreciate the above!

P.S. Data makes the world go round, same as the big bottom girls😁
