Nice finds Chass...pheasant backs are pretty good. Sauted up with the morels and a little onion....mmm mmm. Good shit! Going to make some time this week and hit the woods pretty heavy. With rain and warm temps this week... should have plenty up later week. Good huntn to everyone.

You carrying a full size? Looks to be out of the holster a good ways.
Yeah, just on the belt. Full seated.

I wasn't going to take the larger pheasant but it was still extremely soft and tender, same as the smaller. Sauted just in butter, not my favorite but if you scrape the tops off, bread em in a seasoned cornmeal breading then fry in butter. 👌

That's where I am. Seems to be dependent on elevation down here. I've found a few handfuls in the last month in gallia.
I'm in meigs county and the three I found were Damn near the highest elevation around my house. No moisture around, none of the go to dying trees to indicate a good spot. These damn things are finicky man haha.

The patch I found was the highest elevation...didn’t find anything anywhere else.

My main area I believe is about 650-900ft and I've found most of em in the bottoms. It's like shed hunting, you can check all the spots that look the best but they just seem to find you. I still think it's a tad early in my woods, still not very green. Go down the road a few miles and it's super green and may apples up everywhere.

If the peckers r still comming up and fresh then still got another couple weeks usualy of good hunting. Dog pecker types are strange .. one year hundreds in in area then none some other years. Shrink up a lot in skillet...but still a good shroom.
