Squirrel Doggin' 2016

My beagle now has it made..... talk about liveing the dream. my wife would have it no other way. She'd put my ass in the kennel before she put him in there.

Lately, if he's not doing this, he's either eating/pissing/ or shitting. Ha

If I'd bring the girls in the house, I'd be single lol.... She gets within 5' of them she's sneezing and breaks out bad in hives with their dander....


 
Yo, Jamie... Mason and I worked like dogs yesterday. Late in the evening we had to run down to Hillsboro for chicken and goat feed. We stopped at Wendy's to pick up dinner on our way home. The drive through was packed so we went inside. He found a business card for a guy peddling curs and feist dogs! He's got the bug bad.... it ain't happening. :)
 
I guess we better plan another squirrel hunt for after ML season, eh? make him skin all the dead rats this time while we relax in the toasty man cave. maybe that will cool his jets, or maybe Lefty will be a total shit head next time and turn him off to the idea, lol!

on the other hand, trying to circumvent destiny is usually only postponing the inevitable, so you may not have any escape, ultimately. I apologize for unwittingly complicating your life. rotflmao
 
Understand this, he is persistent. I have eventually given in on goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, beagle hounds and bird dogs.... a line must be drawn. Ha. I enjoyed following Lefty too, but there is only so much time.
And absolutely, another day of chasing squirrels sounds like a blast. Skinning rats will not alter his thoughts one bit. :)
 
If I had any idea about squirrel hunting with a dog in high school, I probably would not have spent the last 30 some years deer hunting with a bow and arrow. I might not even be a deer hunter at all. dogs are work, but very rewarding.

whenever you see a chance, let me know and we'll make it happen. maybe even invite Giles again. :smile:
 
I'm good with Saturday, Sunday and Monday most any week. Mason, however, will be in school on Mondays. There is little chance I could tag along without serious repercussions if I were to leave Mason behind. :)

I don't think I agree with you assumption that you would be solely a squirrel man if you had started earlier. I firmly believe it's the learning curve that makes everything fun. As we talked about the other day. If you had been a full time squirrel man for 20 years, think how exciting it would be to learn bow whittling and hunting again. Once upon a time I ran beagles every free minute I had. Times have changed. I have about as good a rabbit dog as there is, and she only chases rabbits around my house most days now. I am however thoroughly enjoying following our GSP around in search of pheasants. Heck, on Sunday aside from killing 3 roosters, we harassed a couple covey of quail for quite a spell even though season is out and we weren't able to shoot. Pointing bird dogs are new to me, and absolutely fascinate me. At some point, the "new" car smell wears off of everything, even if it's still fun to drive.
 
It's the investment of time that I don't have... As I said earlier, we already have a beagle and two bird dogs that do not get as much field time as they should. A squirrel dog in our little patch of swamp would have an awful good time though, even if it never left the yard.
 
Looks like they have a line of finished dogs also.

I don't think I could own one living in the woods. It be like owning a coon dog...that dog would be singing all day long or it would be a waste of a good dog because it'd get used to them.
 
Brock, that guy is dealing in the same line(s) of Curs that mine come from. Jukebox, Streak, Thundersport. these dogs are much less "houndy" than some others. more bird dog and feist in them. I've seen some those more houndy Busher bred dogs, and they are usually bigger with a much more coarse bone structure, floppy ears, hardheaded, etc.

weekends are good for me. I ain't goin' without Mason. ;)
