Doesn't look like they were sanded at all before sprayed yellow. Alot of John deers new equipment is that way to because Hitachi builds them and then throws a cheap yellow paint job on them we have a track hoe that the counter weight has flaked off and looks like crap with the orange showing through
This almost looks like it was just a sticker covering the whole cover. Or a wrap. It is a 2005 machine. Doubt it was a wrap. Or a sticker for that matter. Weird the way the paint has come off though.

Superduty is moving along. One more layer of body filler to sand out and we are painting. Picked up a flat bed that will see POR15 on the underside. Mount it. Install the new LED lights. Just about back in service.

Can't wait to see it Phil. Did you guys mount the doors to see hownit all lines up or you not to worried about it or were there positioning pins and such to use to ensure alignment?

Never had to remove the doors. But. . .we did need to re-align the doors as the welding and such did have them a touch out of alignment.

Yee yee! Far from done but much closer than when we started. Curious to see how this dries out. Wish I had used a really fine roller rather than the general purpose one. This cab corner looks factory once coated. The other side I see one spot that could have used just a smidge more body filler. Had one low spot. I'll take it considering I've never done this before.

Inside the door jambs I admit to not taking as much time or having as much concern about perfection. The body filler is satisfactory (to me) but not "factory finish".

What's a crummy?

I'm keeping the truck. Done shopping for it's replacement. It's replacement is in these pics. Some money and elbow grease? Or $25k for a 5-7 year old version of this truck with 125-150,000 miles (that is starting to rust already)? I'm done looking for another truck. This ol girl is staying in our stable of trucks.

Makes sense that you're keeping it. To me it just seemed like a lot of work for a work truck in the rust belt. But I guess if you don't put a ton of miles on it and plan to keep it for another decade then it makes sense.
 

Have it all under my 08 GX470 and my 12 Avalon. 160,000 and 150,000 miles. Live just off I-90 in NW Penna. snow belt and you will look long and hard to find any rust on either of them!

Do your research and decide for yourselves!

Put second coat of Raptor Liner on the cab. Put a thick coat of POR15 on underside of flatbed. Should be mocking up a test fit tomorrow. I know we need to cut out for fuel neck. Other than that it may need a shim to level it.

Floor repair looked decent. Welds were tough because it was so thin and sections were rusted metal going to new metal. I got her done though and applied the rest of the body seam adhesive on top of the joints to seal it up. Inside and under the cab. Used the left over Raptor liner to cake on the new rockers underneath as well.

Drivers side cab corner needed a touch more filler in one section. Oh well. She is done now. Respectable for first time doing cab corners and rockers. Not factory perfect, but not a hillbilly spray foam job either.

@Jackalope I've been thinking about your comment. First off: I'm not offended. I've simply realized ALL my vehicles are crummies. 🤣

Set the bed tonight. Umm. . .not gonna work. Looks like a dump body up so high. Pulled it off after some measurements. Cut the 2.5" square stock off the back. Cut the 5" C-channel off the front. Welded the square tube on the front..should sit level. Should be 2.5" lower. Not sure I can get it any lower than that. Painted it up on the sides and as far as I could reach into the bed. Will finish painted the floor once it is mounted.

I am NOT a welder. The sheet metal welds were less than impressive. I was proud of the welds on the square tube. Still not professional quality but pretty good for a hack like me. Some of my better welds from over the years.

I can't sit idle. Finished watching the news. Figured I would go finish painting the flat bed. Bottom was dry enough to set it down on some 4x4s. Back up the skid loader. Pull off the sides. Get that girl a new look! Not that is was horrible. More so, the can of POR15 lid is bad and I needed to empty the can or toss it. May as well get my money's worth.

Good. No offense meant. A crummy is just a slang term for a work truck that hauls workers. Not the foreman's truck or the workers' personal trucks. Made popular with miners and loggers, but even railroad guys referred to the caboose as a crummy because it hauled crew.
