And so the saga continues...
With my dad being down and out for a while, I have been on the hook for farm chores. So after I finished up with the cows yesterday, I hopped on the quad and pulled most of my cams. It has been a month since I've checked them and I haven't stepped foot out there in two weeks. As some of you know, the cam checks following gun season are among the most nerve racking and I was expecting the worst! However it was the best cam pull of the year!!!
During a scouting trip on 11/17 when I hung these cams, I hung one over a rub line that intersects the road connecting our best oak flat with the creek bottom below. I was pleasantly surprised to see how active the camera was, reiterating the fact that I need a stand up there next year. What really shocked me was this video taken at 7:15PM last Thursday night...

I have ZERO pictures of him N of our creek and this is the first real evidence of him traveling that area. I've always suspected he was using this area, just didn't have confirmation until now. I just wish there were acorns up there to make it worth sitting in the late season. Following the reviews of this camera, I checked the camera were I expected him to be and sure enough, he showed up there more than a few times during gun season. The first picture is just a few hours after Tracie missed her doe a few yards behind where he is standing...
You can really see that sticker off his right side in this pic...
Finally some good views of his rack!
Look at that nose! And it appears he has a tear in his ear TOO, which I love!!!
The early morning hours of Friday 12/6 he made several trips to the corn. This last picture is the one that gives me hope for muzzleloader. On Saturday morning I'm fairly certain I jumped him from his bed which is on the ridge above this corn and to the west a ways; probably a 400 yard walk. He likes to stay at the corn until the very last second like he did here...
I found a great tree during my scouting the Saturday of gun season that would allow me to cover a massive amount of his territory on that ridge, and I'd have a chip shot to the main trail connecting the bed I found to the sanctuary. I also hung a camera at the bottom edge of the sanctuary covering the main trail leading out of there towards the corn. Here he is shortly after dark on the Sunday of gun season slipping down through the sanctuary to hit the corn.
I have some plans for muzzleloader weekend that will prevent me from chasing him real hard. However I will be out there Sunday evening, and may sit most of the day Monday/Tuesday if it works out. I really think I know his preferred bedding area now and it is very apparent how he is getting to the corn more often than not. The next good chance I get to hang cams, I'll litter this travel corridor with cams and hope things sort themselves out!
