The Official Camper and Camping Thread

Same
When my last camper did that it was on a bind. Right at the gear box. I was able to get on it with a pipe wrench to get me home. But I did junk it. Warranty fix 👍🏾

Just outside of warranty and wish she was just bound up/outta wack. Unfortunately it wasnt and even tho out of warranty, gonna stop by dealer tomm to see if they'll warranty the motor since this seems to be a common issue. This is the same exact failure mode as shown in the YT videos🤨

Went to dealer this AM, no help, out of warranty and don't have motor in stock. Called around for pricing, ranges from $104-$400. Got pissed and called BAL (motor manufacturer) and Forest River (maker of trailer), logged complaints with both and offered to send pictures/return untampered with motor back to engineering team.

BAL engineering team called, said yep, we're sending you a new RH motor, return your old one. Were also throwing in a LH just in case and as an appreciation for the partnership. Ship out tomm, be there 1-2 days....yeah baby!

You going to swap them both out at the same time?

Nope, not a fun/easy job by yourself definitely not looking for more work or issues lol. Would be nice to have done by Strouds, but my original goal was within next few weeks due to having a motor bought/shipped as cheap as possible with OEM parts. That LH motor will ride along just in case.

So nice when a company stands behind their product and does the right thing.

She was a pain to square the slideout box and get the right distance out of the main box to get the chain & cable length just right to install. Ran it in and out 8x's after buttoning up, time to send it.

Good to see you got it working again, how long of a job was it? You wanna try and tackle the other side at strouds since you’ll have more body’s to help?

About 2hrs to disassemble, little less on reassemble. Appreciate the offer on LH side but just gonna run it and keep spare motor handy. Now that I understand how the system works, no concerns getting slide in to get home should something happen again while away. Still gotta run a bead of silicone down the outside jamb to seal it up. Wasn't there from factory, but its a large vertical seam on the leading edge, better safe than sorry.

Was it as tight as installing a washer and dryer? 😂
