Joe, I think a lot of you.... But don't be too proud of that win. Michigan State didn't even show up. The Cleveland Browns would have beat them......
Oh the classic big 10 excuses. "They didn't show up". Team _________ would have done better"
MSU showed up, they just got shut down at every turn. They couldn't get a pass or run game going because the Alabama D line just owned them. If cook managed to get off a pass it wasn't a half second later he was on his back. Pressure. The only drive they really made the whole game was right before the half. But by the 2nd quarter you could tell those hits were screwing with cook. Throwing high balls, inaccurate balls, and a bunch of "throw it away". The kid was tired if getting hit and couldn't even get his team to within field goal range.
On the O side for Bama executed perfectly. They won without Henry which has been a huge part of their game. All season Bama had two main tactics. Give it to Henry, and once in a while catch them off guard and throw it long. Somehow since the last game The Alabama O figured out how to create a short pass game. Which is saying something because Alabama has always been a run it down your throat team. The receivers beat the crap out of the MSU secondary at every turn and put yards on the board. Sure MSU might have a great defense but look at the alabama offensive line. Looks like a D line and they manhandled that MSU D most of the night.
MSU showed up, they just played outside the BIG 10 and got shown what real football looks like. It's easy to look like a superstar in the big 10. There's really only one or two teams to beat per season to be the champs. While the SEC largely sucked this year that hasn't been the case in years past. If you became the SEC champ you earned it every Saturday. While Bama had in my opinion largely a cupcake season they've proven they can beat the snot out of people when it counts.
I watched the Clemson game right afterwards because I recorded it. I didn't see anything special. Bama will shut down that O line pretty easy, with the exception of some of those trick plays Clemson likes to play. But the Bama D line is very good about breaking contact and shifting as the play develops. And we'll see Henry back in the game, the Clemson D couldn't really stop the Oklahoma run, they won't stop Henry and he'll put 200 yards on them. Combine that with their new found short pass game and the championship is all but in the bag.
