The title represents another category of discussion we toss around a good bit. Figured we could condense some of it for future referral. Consider this a spot for those on the search, or for those tools you've bought and used and think we should all own.

Outside walking my driveway right now considering some curb appeal/sweet equity projects and I'd like to have a torch for my 40# propane tank. I'd use it most often for weed control, but it wouldn't hurt for starting bonfire either! Anyone had good/bad luck with a particular brand of these?

I use this all the time at the campground to start bonfires and burn weeds out of the driveway. The only thing I would change is getting the model with the igniter. Screenshot_20181230-153239_Chrome.jpg

Speaking of harbor freight, I got a hose reel for my air compressor there pretty cheap. It’s nice because I can pull up my truck, tractor, wheel barrow or whatever right up to the shed. Just turn on the compressor and pull the air hose out. A lot easier then carrying the compressor to the vehicle. They carry a variety of air tools/attachments at great prices also. Stay away from the Chicago electric brand of grinders...you’ll only get one or two uses out of it before it burns up. For power tools I guess you get what you pay for.

I have a handful of HF coupons I need to use some day soon. The tool box I keep in my truck got water in it and rusted most of the hand tools beyond repair. Time to replace them, plus get a couple items I'm ashamed to not own already (floor jack and jack stands).

I have an air hose reel I got from HF 15 years ago. very handy if you have a large, not really portable air compressor, which I do. I'm thinking about getting a retractable air hose reel and putting 100 feet of good rubber air hose that won't get stiff when it's not 80 degrees outside. I used to not mind at all when my hose got stiff, now it's just a hassle.:p

I've bought quite a lot of stuff at HF over the years. cheap hand tools, driver bits, etc. the kind of stuff my employees would walk off with, lose, or wear out from actual use. never been disappointed with any of that stuff. great deals to be had there on woodworking bar clamps and large C clamps, tarps, tie downs, gloves. their air accessories and hose fittings are cheap but they work as good as anything I've ever bought at a hardware store. I don't think I'd ever buy a power tool there, but plenty of good stuff for cheap.

I’ve got the green flexzilla hose, love it! Never a worry even in the coldest temps. Guessing I’ve had it 10 years now. No so bright green anymore but never a problem.

I’ve been wanting a giant planer since I was in high school. I really enjoy a good wood working project. I haven’t done much of it the last couple of years due to space. Just isn’t any fun digging everything out and putting it back every day.

Anyways...I missed out this morning on a good one. I got ahold of my dad early this morning and sent him the info. (It was all for sale in his town) He went and one guy had been before him...he left with my damn planer! I’m going to take a look at the dust collector system this week.

Oh well, I don’t even have a place for any of it right now anyways, just real hard to pass up the prices!

So if any of you come across a planer that’ll take up to 36” boards...2 or 3 phase, keep me in mind please.

$400 and missed it by minutes!!!!

My dad left me a tool that has some value, but is more a pain than a perk for me. Last week, I toured our new Makerspace and noted their wood shop could use one, so I agreed to donate it to them. My grandfather bought this when he was building his garage apartment. He gifted it to my dad, my dad had no use for it and "gifted it to me". My gift is to the community and the 4'×4' spot I just gained in the shop!

Dad left me something with much more value to me than the saw. This cabinet was from his old office. It's a super cool piece, so I'm glad to have inherited it. It's full of junk right now while I continue to sort and clean down here, but it'll eventually serve as some great storage for me. The Pennzoil sticker will come off and a big 'ol TOO logo will go up!

No. It's a Globe Wernicke out of Cincinnati. Their stuff was popular with Pennzoil back in the 50s and 60s. Lots of leftovers in my dad's possession after years of leaning in the patch. This is one of a few Globe products I'll end up with some day. It's worth about the same as the saw amazingly enough.

Couple other things I inherited, and one I didn't, so I had to get my own. Dad left the old school lamp and the grinder, but took his drill press. He had a much larger version in this spot, but it was overkill for most of my needs. Found this on sale after Christmas for $70 and it had great reviews on a variety of sites that carry them. I burnt up some Christmas $ on it and finally got around to putting it together today. Having the grinder and now the press, I picked up 2 tools that have been on my list for a long time!

Yeah, the press won't get a ton of use, so it'll likely last me a lifetime. And for the $, it should pay for itself a few times over. It's one of those tools I've made special trips to use and since I had the perfect spot for it, and a special trip is now an hour round trip to dad's instead of 15, it seemed like a good purchase. Especially since I plan to do more woodworking now that I have the space.

I've had a gift card for Lowes burning a hole in my pocket, so I headed there to waste some time while K was at fiddle lessons tonight. They had a couple deals on bits, so it seemed like a natural fit considering I have 17 partial drill bit sets and always seem to be missing the one I need! These 2 now have a dedicated home in the drawer under the press. Only cost me $2.67 out of pocket. 😎

Not to be confused with a violin 😂

Actually, yes. There are subtle differences as I've learned. The analogy is a man is a mammal, but not all mammals are a man. A violin is a fiddle, but a fiddle is not necessarily a violin.

Her fiddle has a couple of minor structural differences that are typically not found on a violin. The major difference is the type of music and she's learning folk music, not classical.
