I could see my breath this morning. When I visited my jobsite this morning I saw fog rolling off my pond. Neat enough site to make me take an outdoor whiz. That generated some steam TOO. I love these kind of mornings with a slight sting in the air. It's sweatshirt weather with shorts. My comfort zone.
Yesterday was one of the nicest days I can remember in a long time. The 10-day here says a high of 77 and a low of 51 next Saturday with clouds accompanied by a S-SW wind. It could be better, but it could be worse as well. As long as that holds true, I'll be in a tree on the inside corner of a CRP field that is lined with oaks...

That's one of my favorite setup spots as well; about 30 yards into the woods on the corner.
I have a steep bank behind my tree, so they either have to walk all the way down to the creek to pass behind me, or cut the corner and walk right in front of me at 20 yards. It is probably the best stand I have ever hung in terms of getting deer inside 30 yards. If I get skunked from this tree at all, at any point this year, I would be shocked. Had I been here last year on the night Tracie killed her first deer with a bow, I'd have had a shot at a 140" 10 and that was October 23rd. I won't hunt this tree much after the first weekend or two. I want to kill a doe early from here as it is one of the few places I have enough to feel comfortable taking one. Once I've done that, I plan to sit back and take a few weekends off...
I did some shooting last night, then hung out in the building until 9:30. Went to walk to the house, and my teeth were chattering by the time I hit the back door! That is TOO good man, I hope it continues on like this, and we don't get that heatwave that always seems to roll through.
As my work schedule sits right now, I will be able to hunt the 3rd, the 8th, with my first multi-day hunt opportunity being the 12-14, and then the 19-25th. I'm also excited because I get to hunt Halloween this year. It's a bummer not getting to hunt opening weekend, but it's also a blessing, as I'd prefer to stay out of the woods until the end of October.

the weird thing is, I havent seen any deer on these cool mornings. I am on my way to work by 3:30 and have been waiting for one to jump out in front of me. Maybe I'm going through too early?
