Uh, yeah. That's one messed up hunt right there! Having hunted in Missouri, I'm not super surprised honestly. That's some God forsaken backwoods country. Some shit went down for sure.
Im surprised they didn't climb down sooner and go get some signal. If I'm close enough to hear all that going down, I'm way too close.
I think it was someone having a mental health episode and flirting with suicide. Like his girl broke up with him and he was acting out. Sounds like he was near a road and maybe be had her on the phone or was on FB live or something. Or just solo.

Well they're up to a half million subscribers so whatever they're doing, it's working.
It’s a really sad statistic, but actually a lot of terrible things happen on public lands. Murder, suicide, rape, all of the above and then some.
