This is the deer we call potbelly.
The pic does not do him any justice. I would say he is over 300lbs. He looks like a shetland pony walking through the woods.

My first encounter with him last year was inside 12 yards. I was hunting on the ground and he came in straight at we. I stood holding my bow waiting for a shot but he had me pegged. We sat there and had a state down for several minutes before he worked his way out of there.

Needs a couple more years. Although that’s a good looking 2.5 year old 😂

Got 3 stands hung yesterday. Of course the only good tree for a stand was a Honey Locust. Still got some thorns in me. Also got stung by one of those white Caterpillars. Had some hikers give us the staredown. Checked trail cameras, only a couple deer. They hadn't been out long. I doubt I hunt much until the end of October as usual.

You seem to find a way to make it happen, I'm not worried. Lol

We've got some down power lines going back to the campground, some invasive species getting removed and a new trail getting cut. So we will have our battles cut out for us again this year.

I saw one of the biggest wild deer of my life last year crossing the road right in that area, so they are there for sure. The 100 acres across the road just sold. May be worth contacting the new landowners to see if they will let you hunt. I think they may be farmers that bought it. Not sure though.
