Friday it opens here for teal. Haven’t been out to scout. Gonna take a look in the morning. Also had to do a repair from the last trip I made in Venice. The bracket rubbed a hole in my pirogue.

i also put the pipe insulation on my pipe brackets and wrapped in electrical tape.

We received a noticeable push of new birds up here since Friday. It’s been a great teal season so far. This weather has been really good to us, both for comfort and for migration timing. I imagine your teal season down there will be lining up nicely, too.

I hope so, but you never know. Each front that comes down sends birds south. Sw La had thousands last week, as of yesterday there was none. Yes more will come and you never know from day to day. Trust me I love shooting limits, but to me it’s more than that. I’m gonna enjoy my hunting this year more than ever.

I heard green jeans wrote a bunch of tickets. Mostly for running lights and bar lights on front of boat. Maybe some illegal exhaust on mud boats.

We gonna try on the nwr in the morning, hopefully get to shoot my gun this time.

Well today was a different day. Paddled 7,200 feet from the boat one way to where I wanted to hunt but Mother Nature had other plans for me. The small bayou to get to my spot was all grown over with cut grass. If you dont know what that is it’s similar to cattails but thicker and the edges will cut your hand open. Came back to where a couple bayous crossed and set up with my buddy Mike. Had a shit ton of wood ducks and mottled ducks flying in, over and around us. We managed to kill 6 and I lost one that glided down about 200 yards away and Pearl was already picking up a blind retrieve the other direction. Was nice to pull the trigger and after the hunt, I paddled back to find a way to my spot.

next year it will be completely cover in wild rice, that’s what’s in the pond.

Went back but the water fell out with the “front “ that pushed through. Couldn’t get to the x and ended up shooting the only single that presented a shot.

Gonna try again in the morning. Will have more water this time and hopefully still have a few teal to shoot.

Well we were on the X, just on wrong side, should’ve been 50 yards over. Still managed to shoot our limit. Lost 3 birds and my gun wouldn’t shoot on 3 different occasions. Must have some powder in my trigger assembly, time for a deep cleaning. Still a great hunt and got checked by green jeans coming out.

All you got to do is drive down, the hunts free.

So got up this morning at 4am and didn’t feel like going. The older I get, the harder it is to wake up real early. Anyway Momma didn’t raise no quitter, got plenty of water and I have the birds dialed in and a jam up dog. Put in at the launch with only one other truck and trailer there. 3 more came in as I was driving off. Parked the boat and unloaded the pirogue and gear. I hear a boat coming and they go passed me in another bayou and run their boat the mile I have to paddle. Well fug they might get to my pond. Plenty of area so what’s the odds? Make the paddle and see the boat, paddle half mile more and push into the pond and there is someone w a light at the other end. Thought about going to talk to them…..often I invite others to hunt w me, but opted out. Turned back and went to the spot where I hunted Sunday but 100 yards off the flyway. Set up in the cove with the wind not good but shit I’m in the flyway that they want to fly. 15 minutes before shooting time I have teal in the decoys and buzzing past me. Shooting time comes and a single got the business end. Pearl does her thing and few minutes another comes in and decides to ride home w us. A pair comes in and 3 whiffs well I did get some feathers. Another pair and 3 whiffs. I’m pissed and thinking I should have 4 in 10 minutes. Small flock comes from behind me and don’t see them till too late. Another flock comes from behind me but this time I see them, it’s about 30 and I’m trying to knock four down. Shot in the dark spot and one falls 40 yards in heavy marsh grass, the other two shots……well you know the story. As pearl is trying to find that bird a single comes by and don’t make it out the pond. Pearl finds the one in the grass and I send her on a blind retrieve for the one I just knocked down. Retrieves that bird and another pair is flying by and I drop both. Whooo got my limit. Pearl retrieves a double and the rest is history.

The amount of drive in that dog is beyond what I can handle.

Went this morning where we went opening day on Friday. Was hoping some birds showed up but we had one commit and two that skirted is. I didn’t shoot my gun again, my buddy shot the one. Tomorrow going back to the X.

Forgot to post was in a rush. Drove my boat further back Saturday morning. Got to my spot and 2 guys are already in it. Wtf it’s 5am? Me and Mike paddled back to my second spot which was only 200 yards from the boat. Set up and sprayed down w yard dog, off and had the thermacell running. Daylight broke and not much around. We ended up killing 5 birds and called it a day.

Wife was wanting us to go up with our friends that was tailgating at LSU, I told her no the day before as I intended to hunt Sunday, but there wasn’t much so I figured wth. Texted her and told her to get ready as I’d be coming home shortly. This would be our first time, ITS FRICKING HUNTING SEASON! Pulled up at 1pm and we drank and ate….more drinking than eating. Around 5 we pulled up stub hub and bought tickets to the game. All was a great time and that’s off my bucket list. She can go back….I have better things to do .
