Tow rig/daily driver

This thread should be enough to run anyone away from buying a used truck. I’m over it
Well that’s a bit harsh. Plenty of used trucks out there with no major issues. The fact that this thread focuses on just a few members amongst a huge pool of members should tell you there’s nothing wrong with buying used. I’ve seen plenty of new vehicles with issues too.

Currently not happy with my truck. I might love it next week. Stay tuned😂

I've inked one new vehicle in my life. It was a GM. It was a problem child. If it isn't older than 1988. . . You can keep your Chevy trucks. Square body and older. Like Triple Dookie said, they all break. Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota. I think my next one will be a set up like JohnR has. 3/4 or 1 ton Dodge gasser. "Maybe" a Ford gasser.

I can say that I just bought a 2017 gmc Sierra 3/4 ton back in December. I stayed quite on this topic until now to get a good feel for it and see if any problems were presented. It is a z71 has 60,000 miles with 6.0 and 4.10 rear end. I am getting 15.5 MPG which is not even 1 MPG less than my 13 1500 Silverado I traded in. I have been really happy with it and hav

e had no problems. That being said I do get the downshift clunk every once in a while around d 25 MPH which seems to be fairly common on the 6 speed tranny. All in all I am very happy with my purchase and I have no regrets.

Good looking ride, enjoy!

I’d never forgive myself if something happened while towing. My family is worth me buying the right truck for the job. I would overload the shit out of a half ton.
Exactly, and no one would want/expect you too try.... This is for us half ton guys towing boats and hauling shit you can’t with an SUV....

I know we screw around giving shit too each other over choices of trucks, I’ve had ford, Chevy and now a yota, and so far I’m happier with the yota.... Now will that change when I’m pushing past the 150K mark? We’ll see, I just broke the 107K barrier with nothing outta of the ordinary so far....

I’m at the dealer now waiting on the oil change. I looked around and nothing said “buy me”. So I’ll be rolling in the ford for a while longer. I’ll take my boys over to Jon’s this afternoon and show them how to rotate tires. See if we can’t find what’s clunking in the front end.

@giles
Is the clunk you notice at lower speeds or when turning? I had a clunking noise in my front end on my 03 also. Turned out to be bushings for my swaybar needed replaced. My bushings and swaybar were on the back side of a frame rail crossmember basically under the cab.

Clunks when you turn. Most noticeable when you are backing a trailer. Just started last weekend after something popped. I also noticed that when I was coming back from Athens that I could only see the driver’s side of the camper. Which tells me it’s dog walking down the road. Something broke, now I just have to find what it was. Sway bar of some sort I’m guessing. She’s pulling hard right.

I also used my e-locker for the first time last weekend and it doesn’t seem to have disengaged. So I should look into that as being part of the problem. Putting everything into a bind.

Frustrating 96,753 miles

Dave, if your talking about the 250, check your hubs manually. Turn right to lock, left to unlock. Yeah I know you know but some peeps might not. Locking your hubs manually will lock them in regardless of your e lock
