Tow rig/daily driver

When the pump goes out it is caused by a bearing failure which then sends metal shavings throughout the fuel system post fuel filter. This contaminates the entire system which means everything except the fuel tank needs replaced because there is no way to really clean it all out. The fuel tank itself will need to be removed and flushed but can be reused. Pump, injectors, high pressure fuel rails, and fuel lines all need replaced. A lot of people change out the fuel pump from the CP4 to the old style CP3 to eliminate the issue. I do not know how hard that replacement is because I haven’t done one. If it is in the same location as the older models it sits in the valley of the motor which means everything on top must be removed to get to it.
 
This was also an issue with the 6.7 Powerstroke. The new fuel regulations Obama put out doesn't have the lubrication required. So don't think we are dogging this truck. It is for sure something to be aware of before the purchase. I went ahead and bought my 12' PS knowing this could happen to me. We all know that IF something was going to happen, it would happen to me. It didn't. But with a repair at this cost, word is going to get around like the slut from high school.

Some people add some added security by upgrading to a lift pump. This really becomes important when adding tunes/power. Not worth over working the fuel system. I was the kind of person to add 2 cycle to the fuel. There are options.

Just a heads up, my 2016 3/4 ton Silverado shredded a transmission hauling my boat back through Kentucky. Only had 67000 miles on it. Apparently it’s a known issue for that year. Truck was just out of warranty. I had a new updated tranny put in and just got it back today. If you plan to buy that year or around that year do your research and make sure it already has the revamped transmission.

My buddy has a 2015. Transmission issues. Had transmission rebuilt. Week or two later got codes again. Waiting on ECM (or maybe he said TCM?) Hasn't had his truck since January. Not sure you can fault the truck though. Might be in the guy who rebuilt it.

Yeah the latest is 2019 but it goes back a few years. The eight speed is a piece of shit that should have been recalled. GM's fix is to just do a triple flush then fill with Mobil one blue. Some don't get covered by the warranty because they say it was a engineering mistake and not a manufacturer defect. Its a fucking mess for sure. I have one in my Colorado but they put it in the Silverado, Camaro and some Cadillac.
 
On a bright note lol the triple flush fixed the issue but I'm sure I glazed the fuck out of my converter running the hills down south last summer when the shutter started.
